2nd Book Giveaway for Language-Learning Challenges!

More than a month ago, the Combined True or False Quiz featured questions that reviewed Korean, Chinese, Thai and Spanish. It was a bit trickier than some of our other language-learning challenges, but we knew you could do it!

Here are the answers to those questions:

  • The first question is True. In Episode 6 of the Korean drama “It’s Okay, That’s Love,” when Jae Yeol (played by Jo In Sung) is driving with Gang Woo (played by EXO’s D.O.) and says,  “진짜 매력 있거든” (“Jin jja mae ryuk it guh deun”), it translates to “She is really full of charms.”
  • The second question is True. In Episode 3 of the Chinese drama “One and A Half Summer,” when Hao (played by 2PM’s Nichkhun) reminisces about a past time in Greece with Luo Man (played by Xu Lu) and shared, “这里是我爸妈度蜜月的地方” (“Zhe shi wo ba ma du mi yue de di fang”), it translates to “This is where my parents went for their honeymoon.”
  • The third question is False. In the movie “Siyama: Village of Warriors,” when Ana (played by Thitima Maliwan) comments, “มันตั้งสองร้อยปีกว่ามาเเล้ว” (“Mun thung song roi bee gwa mar laew”) about a past historical era to Gift (played by Nattanun Jantarawetch), it should translate to “It was over 200 years ago.”
  • The fourth question is False. In Episode 1 of “My Sweet, Fat Valentina,” when Valentina (played by Natalia Streignard) is called over by her friends to watch her and Orestes (played by Juan Pablo Raba) says, “Un beso para ti, mi amor” (“Un be-so pa-ra ti, mi a-mor”), it should translate to “A kiss for you, my love.”
Hope you got them all correct!

Now, it’s time for our second Tuttle Publishing book giveaway! Only users in the Top 10 ranking are eligible, so here’s a look at the lucky language learners who have a chance to walk away with a book gift.

An Ode: How Great Dramas Ruined My Life

What Asian drama title sums up your life in a nutshell? Asian drama titles have a life of their own, inspiring your imagination in so many ways. I just thought I would have a little fun with all the great titles on Viki. I hope you enjoy this little tribute to all the great dramas on Viki!

I thought you were a man who understood me.

A whirlwind romance between The Man Who Can’t Get Married

But you were Madly in Love with me,
Saying, “There’s Only You, My Princess, My Queen.”

Three Days of courtship turned into Two Weeks and Happy 300 Days.

When you said, “Marry Me, Mary!”
“But my name’s not Mary,” I said.
Marry Me!” you insisted. “Still, Marry Me.”

So we Tie the Knot, with many an eager “I Do, I Do” and “I Do 2.”

I should have listened to that inner voice that said, “Marry Him If You Dare.”
But I was Beyond the Clouds and thought we had The Greatest Love.

I thought life would be an Easy Fortune Happy Life,
And I would be the Goddess of Marriage and the Queen of Housewives.

But my husband, the Good Doctor, turned into Doctor Stranger.
Until you came home one day with a Scent of a Woman.

As if that was an excuse to give into Temptation and a Secret Love Affair.

I had to know what Cunning Single Lady stole your heart away.
So you brought her, and she said, “My Name Is Kim Sam Soon.”
I should have known: The Suspicious Housemaid!

I Love You, Don’t Cry,” you dared to say. “But “She’s So Lovable” so “Goodbye Dear Wife.”

Where she planned The Wedding Scheme all along.
By telling you, “I’m Pregnant With Your Baby.”
And you came crawling back to me, asking for forgiveness.

You say that I’m Fated to Love You,
You ask to return to The Happy Times of That Year,

But I asked myself, “What Is Love? Can We Love?
I’ve realized that I can only Love Myself or You,
But not both.

You see, I’ve written a tell-all book All About My Romance
Called It’s Okay, That’s Love.
But worries continue to plague me:
What Happens to My Family?

But then I got My Love From the Star– Lee Min Ho –
And let’s just say, he’s a Big Man that you never were,
And he shows me Love Around the clock!

That I turned A New Leaf.

Our Heirs will be Inspiring Generations to come!

But I’ll leave you with these parting words:

Maybe your Playful Kiss
Will turn into a Witch’s Romance!

Hope you enjoyed this little drama-inspired poem! Let us know in the comments below which drama title sums up YOUR life!

Language-Learning Challenge: Get Ready to Write ‘Hangeul’

Song Joong Ki as young King Sejong in ‘A Tree With Deep Roots

Happy Hangeul Day! For those of you who aren’t familiar with this Korean holiday, October 9 celebrates the invention and proclamation of the Korean alphabet, or Hangeul, during the Chosun Dynasty by King Sejong. If you’re interested in learning more about how Hangeul was created, watch “A Tree With Deep Roots,” which is about the events surrounding the seven days before the announcement of the Korean script.

To celebrate this Korean national holiday, we thought of the perfect language-learning challenge – teaching you how to write consonants from three Korean phrases! Yes, you read correctly. It’s time to practice your writing skills.

Check out these three phrases taken from some of our favorite dramas. Print out the full worksheet and see how well you can write them.

She’s So Lovable

In Episode 5, Se Na (played by f[x]’s Krystal) searches for handsome dog owner/neighborhood ahjussi/ANA’s CEO Hyun Wook (played by Rain) so she can play her completed song for him. After finally running into each other on the rooftop, he says “Let’s listen together.”

같이 듣자
Let’s listen together.

Short form:
Together (Ga-chi)

Note: At the beginning of a word, is pronounced similarly to [g]. Otherwise, it’s similar to [k].

Hi! School: Love On

In Episode 5, Woo Hyun (played by Infinite’s Woohyun) and Sung Yeol (played by Infinite’s Sungyeol) discover Seul Bi (played by Kim Sae Ron) lying unconscious on a bench. She wakes up and we see how deep their bromance runs when they respond in unison, “Are you okay?”

Are you okay? (Gwen-chan-ah)

Note: A strong consonant such as  means that the pronunciation [ch] will stay the same regardless of placement.

A Tree With Deep Roots

In Episode 12, King Sejong (played by Han Suk Kyu) shares his work on the Korean alphabet with his court ladies and Hall of Worthies scholars. Excitement is felt all around about its simplicity. Now, writing “Hello/Hi” doesn’t require as many brush strokes!

Hello (Ahn-yeong-ha-se-yo)

Short form:
Hi (Ahn-yeong)

Note: As an ending consonant, is pronounced [ng]. Otherwise, it’s pronounced [o].

The 5 Hottest Bollywood Actresses (Who Aren’t Aishwarya)

Let’s face it, ever since that Pepsi ad, everyone has loved Aishwarya Rai Bachchan — or maybe the love started when she was crowned Miss World in 1994. Those are just petty details. One thing’s for sure — during her rise to fame, Aish has raised the bar for Bollywood actresses. Movies like “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,” “Taal” and, more recently, “Jodhaa Akbar” have shown international audiences the true potential of modern Indian cinema.

Now that Aish has settled comfortably into marriage and Beyoncé-level public adoration, there’s a new generation of Bollywood actresses who are ready to take their place in the spotlight.

Katrina Kaif

Originally a model from the United Kingdom, Katrina is undoubtedly the biggest star in Bollywood right now. If you don’t already have a crush on her, it won’t be long until you do. Check her out in blockbuster hits like “Partner” and “Singh Is Kinng”! It isn’t hard to see why Katrina’s dance songs, notably “Sheila ki Jawaani,” have consistently become international hits. Katrina’s (also stunning) sister, Isabel, joins the ranks of Bollywood actresses in this year’s “Dr. Cabbie.”

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam has big shoes to fill as the daughter of Bollywood legend Anil Kapoor, and so far, she has certainly stepped up to the challenge! She emerged as a formidable talent in the 2010 blockbuster hit “I Hate Luv Storys.” In mid-September, Sonam was crowned India’s first Disney princess, with the release of the romantic comedy “Khoobsurat.” For further proof that Katrina has arrived, she has even become best friends with fashion icon Tommy Hilfiger!

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka has established herself over the last decade as a major force in Bollywood. From blockbuster hits like “Don,” the “Krrish” series, and “Dostana,” to more experimental work like “Love Story 2050” and “7 Khoon Maaf,” Priyanka is one the highest-paid and most prolific actresses in Bollywood. It doesn’t hurt that, like Aishwarya, Priyanka also is a former Miss World! Check her out in “Aitraaz”!

Deepika Padukone

In 2007, Deepika burst onto the scene in the hit “Om Shanti Om,” winning the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She has since become known for her strong personality and willingness to speak her mind. Since 2012, Deepika has starred in a string of wildly successful movies, such as “Cocktail,” “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” and “Chennai Express.” Check her out in “Break Ke Baad”!

Shraddha Kapoor

Despite being a relative newcomer, Shraddha’s performance in 2013’s “Aashiqui 2” propelled her to fame and earned her a number of awards, including a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress. In fact, many only know Shraddha by the name of her character, Arohi. Also a legacy, Shraddha’s father is Shakti Kapoor, a Bollywood luminary. This year, Shraddha also starred in the highly successful “Ek Villain.”

Drama Finales Mean They’re Over, But Never Gone!

You’ve tried to avoid thinking about that moment, but the finale is finally here. Your favorite show is coming to an end, and there’s nothing you can do about it. We understand that feeling. Trust us, we’ve all been there.

Instead of a sad face, pick yourself up and do a marathon! Watch all the episodes from the beginning again. Or maybe you’re one of those people who saved this show until it was over so you could enjoy the episodes back-to-back in one sitting. No waiting, biting your nails, and twiddling your thumbs for that whole week before new episodes are released. We approve of this approach, too!

Whichever option you choose, here’s our list of recent and upcoming finales:

Discovery of Love: Finale aired October 7

Kang Tae Ha (played by Eric) and Han Yeo Reum (played by Jung Yoo Mi) were in a past relationship that lasted five years and currently are working on a collaborative interior design project. Meanwhile, Yeo Reum and Nam Ha Jin (played by Sung Joon) have been dating for almost two years and are close to making it official. Whom will Han Yeo Reum end up with from this love triangle?

Surplus Princess: Finale aired on October 9

Even mermaids have trouble finding love! Kim Ha Ni (played Jo Bo Ah) has to find her true love within 100 days so she can remain human. If you’ve been following along, it’s come down to two people – Si Kyung, the skilled chef whose cold heart has started opening up, or Hyun Myeong, the unemployed guy who’s kind and warmhearted. Who is her true love?

Lovestore at the Corner: Finale aired on October 10

Nikki Hsieh had to play double duty in “Princess’ Stand In,” but she’s only acting in the role of Du Ke Xing in this drama. It’s been a twisted story of amnesia, heartbreak and new love. Has bonding over her lost sister helped Ke Xing find a happily-ever-after with Shu Lei (played by Lee Wei)?

Plus Nine Boys: Finale aired on October 11

You can’t go wrong with male eye candy — in this case, model-turned-actor Kim Young Kwang and BTOB’s Sung Jae. As the single men in the household begin dating, they soon learn how hard it is to navigate the rocky waters of relationships. Which couple will make it to the finish line?

Jang Bo Ri Is Here: Finale aired on October 12

Everyone has been cursing Min Jung (played by Lee Yoo Ri) for being evil and horrible in this drama (well, that’s just good acting!), so you must be curious how this all plays out. Will Bo Ri (played by Oh Yeon Soo) finally triumph over Min Jung? After more than 50 episodes, check out the exciting ending to this No. 1 weekend drama!

My Secret Hotel: Finale aired on October 14

An ex-husband, a murder mystery and a potential male suitor are a lot to handle for Sang Hyo (played by Yoo In Na)! She has the poise to handle anything, but can she finally decide between Hae Young (played by Jin Lee Han) and Sung Gyeom (played by Nam Goong Min)?

Love Myself or You: Finale airs today (October 17)

While romantic feelings between Zi Jie (played by Jasper Liu) and Kai Qi (played by Puff Guo) were on hold for a few episodes due to family issues, it looks like it’s back on track! He still wants Kai Qi back as a chef at Figaro Cuisine, but she’s already agreed to help Hao Wei (played by Jolin Chien) with his new restaurant venture. What will happen next?

Mama: Finale to air on October 19

Death is always scary, especially when considering the loved ones being left behind. Seung Hee (played by Song Yoon Ah) wants to make sure her son is taken care of after she dies, but will Tae Joo (played by Jung Joon Ho) and Ji Eun (played by Moon Jung Hee) become his new parents?

The Night Watchman: Finale to air on October 21

Lee Rin (played by Jung Il Woo) and Moo Seok (played by Yunho) have been battling for the heart of Do Ha (played by Go Sung Hee). But for Lee Rin, the appearance of a mysterious court lady who might know the secret behind his mother’s death is a major distraction. Our favorite boys are leaving the small screen again, but hopefully not for too long!

Once you’re done with these dramas, you can look forward to a few promising upcoming dramas:

Incomplete Life: Starts today (October 17)

With Im Si Wan (from “Triangle”), Kang So Ra (from “Doctor Stranger”) and Kang Ha Neul (from “Angel Eyes” and “To the Beautiful You”), this young cast is definitely easy on the eyes. See how they deal with growing up and working their way up in the corporate world!

Modern Farmer: Starts on October 18

You usually wouldn’t say rock band and rural farming in the same sentence, but we can make an exception for hotties Lee Hong Ki (from “You’re Beautiful”) and Park Min Woo (from “Flower Boy Ramyun Shop”). Can they make a living in this new profession or will they escape back to their old life in Seoul?

Aim High: Starts on October 24

Four close college friends dreamed about career success, but their tight relationships crumble after a huge fight just before graduation. What happens as they cross paths years later after following four different life experiences and careers? Catch Lego Li from “In A Good Way” and Chris Wang from “Inborn Pair” and “Love Family” in this upcoming Taiwanese drama.

Pinocchio: Starts on November 12

We bet you’ve had this on your radar since it was announced that Park Shin Hye (from “Heirs” and “Flower Boy Next Door”) and Lee Jong Suk (from “Doctor Stranger” and “I Hear Your Voice”) would be starring opposite each other in this drama. Will these 20-something rookie reporters be able to make it in the broadcast news industry in a busy city like Seoul?

Mischievous Kiss 2: Love in TOKYO: Starts on November 24

The highly anticipated second season of the hit series “Mischievous Kiss: Love in TOKYO” series is finally here! A teaser episode was already released in September and followed the newlywed couple on their honeymoon to Okinawa, but now we can’t wait for the rest of the episodes. What twists and romance will Kotoko (played by Yuki Furukawa) and Naoki (played by Miki Honoka) face this time around?

Which show are you sad to see go? Which upcoming show are you most excited about? Tell us in the comments!

At Least 16 Reported Dead at Korean Pop Concert

View of the ventilation grate at K-pop concert. Source: Yonhap News Agency

The K-pop world is reeling from a tragic accident that occurred at an outdoor pop concert in South Korea on Friday, with news agencies reporting at least 16 concert goers dead and almost a dozen more injured.

The accident occurred around 5 p.m. Korean time on Friday at “The 1st Pangyo Techno Valley Festival,” held in Seongnam City just south of Seoul, where the popular K-pop groups 4minute, T-ara, JungGiGo and Cherry Filter were scheduled to perform. During the girl group 4minute’s performance, fans were reported to have stood on top of a ventilation grate to get a better view. The steel grids on top of the raised ventilation platform collapsed under the weight of the concert goers, and the fans fell about 66 feet down a concrete shaft to an underground parking area below.

According to the BBC, 12 people were instantly killed after the fall, another two died on the way to the hospital and two people died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Another 10 or 11 people are reported to have been injured.

An estimated 1,000 people were in attendance at the outdoor music festival. “Techno Valley” is South Korea’s Silicon Valley, where many of the country’s high-tech companies are based. Many of the concert goers are believed to be employees of nearby companies who attended the event after work.

Members of 4minute did not learn of the accident until they were on their way back to Seoul

Our hearts go out to the victims of this terrible tragedy and their families.

8 Hilarious Subtitles Involving Bathroom Humor!

Am I wrong or have there been a lot of recent dramas with wise-cracking comments involving butts, farting and pooping? If you haven’t noticed, let us refresh your memory. Because, who doesn’t like a good joke involving bathroom humor every now and then? Read on for some of our favorites from currently-airing and recent dramas on Viki!

What Happens to My Family? — ‘Eat and poo and sleep and do whatever you want…’

In Episode 3, Gang Jae chews out a female resident for making a mistake on a patient who recently underwent surgery. He accuses the resident of ordering a blood transfusion just to ease her own worries instead of thinking of the patient’s best interest. He compares her actions to being no different than what a mutt would do. Ouch! But if you hang on for a few seconds after the verbal berating, you’ll be rewarded with a great make-out scene!

Wonderful Days — ‘He was going to get stuck in his butt-hole.’

This series is chock-full of references to bathroom humor, making it one of the most entertaining family dramas of the year. The following three examples show the range of great references to butts, farting and pooping in the show!

In Episode 5, So Sim is recalling how much her youngest son, Dong Hee, looked up to his oldest brother, Dong Seok, when they were little.

Wonderful Days — ‘What are you doing only farting for 10 minutes?’

The grandfather, Ki Su, is one of the most entertaining characters in recent dramas — bedridden and dependent on everyone in his extended family to care for him as he reigns over the family from his bed. In Episode 17, his oldest son’s wife and mistress (that’s right, it’s complicated!) both come into his room to break some bad news. But instead of getting straight to the point, they suggest he take a sedative before he hears the news. The impatient grandpa tells them to stop beating around the bush with the following hilarious expression.

Wonderful Days — ‘Diarrhea what? Are you having diarrhea?

The twins, Dong Joo and Dong Won, are the most entertaining child characters in any drama this year. After recently learning that Dong Hee is their real father, in Episode 23Dong Joo tells her twin that she can’t go back to school and face her teacher or her friends. But the less-astute Dong Won misunderstands Dong Joo’s use of the words for “make matters worse” and accuses his sister of having diarrhea, much to her annoyance!

Temptation — ‘If you keep farting, you’re bound to take a crap.

Han Soo, everyone’s favorite private investigator, is hired by President Kang to tail his wife to gather dirt on her to use against her in a divorce proceeding. In Episode 6, as Han Soo watches the wife say goodbye to her tennis instructor, he jokes to himself that he’ll eventually catch her doing something naughty.

Apple in Your Eye— ‘You’re laughing at fart…’

In this current Taiwanese drama, Ji Wei follows her next-door neighbor, Yao Qi, around like a little sister, but he views her as more of a nuisance. When a pudgy kid asks to be Ji Wei’s boyfriend in this drama highlights video, Yao Qi rides by on his bicycle and laughs at her instead of coming to her rescue. Then she says, “Xiao pi la (笑屁啦) ,” which literally translates to “You’re laughing at fart,” but the expression has come to mean “What are you laughing at!”

Can We Love?— ‘Rolling around in a vat of poop.’

Ji Hyun’s mother-in-law in this Korean drama is the epitome of a two-faced, vindictive woman who treats her daughter-in-law like some garbage the cat dragged in. In one of her confrontations with Ji Hyun in Episode 18, the mother-in-law says the following and a whole lot of other nasty things to Ji Hyun’s face, essentially calling her own daughter-in-law a “vat of poop”!

To the Beautiful You— ‘With a dashing bowel movement, start your refreshing day.’

In Episode 1 of this funny series, Tae Joon’s new roommate, who happens to be a female fan of Tae Joon cross-dressing as a boy to be able to attend his all-boys’ school and be his roommate, leaves Tae Joon annoying sticky notes of encouragement all over the house when he gets up in the morning.

Celebrate Diwali — The Hindu Festival of Lights!

Around this time every year, Hindus all over the world celebrate the victory of enlightenment over darkness. Diwali, or the “Festival of Lights,” is celebrated on the darkest night of the Hindu month of Kartika, at the beginning of a new lunar cycle. For a number of Indian ethnic groups, Diwali marks the start of a new year!

While there are many interpretations of the significance of Diwali and the many ways the occasion is celebrated, the holiday is a deeply unifying event for the distantly spread, culturally Indian diaspora. Although the celebration is actually five days long, the third day is the most widely-celebrated and significant.

Like any major holiday, the entertainment industry isn’t far behind. Shah Rukh Khan’s heist-comedy “Happy New Year is this year’s Diwali blockbuster release. Bollywood stars themselves know how to bring in the new year, by hosting lavish, star-studded parties that last all night and into the morning.

What Exactly Goes Down on Diwali?

Family Get-Togethers — On the day of Diwali, families worship together in temples. Usually, extended families come together in one area. Playing card games like Bridge and Court piece is popular, so it’s likely that families will get together for a (sometimes intensely competitive) card game. That means seeing those random aunts, uncles and cousins you forgot you even had! It also means a LOT of traffic in the larger cities like Delhi and Mumbai.

A Hindu priest performing puja, a prayer ritual

Creative Expressions — Brightly colored patterns designed from colored sand and flour, called rangoli, decorate the ground. Rangoli designs can take many different shapes and are a great way to express creativity with a spiritual theme!

Dazzling Lights and Fireworks — Lights, or “divas,” are strung across doorways, floated in water, and placed in windows. Fireworks and sparklers are set off in the street, symbolizing the holiday’s celebration of light.

And Don’t Forget the Gifts! — Gift-giving is a deeply rooted Diwali tradition, as the holiday also celebrates prosperity. While Diwali gifts of yesteryear may have been spiritually-themed, the rapid modernization of Indian society over the last few decades means Diwali presents reflect growing commercialism. For acquaintances, it’s common to give mithai (pronounced mih-TIE), delicious Indian sweets that everyone has to try (more than) once!

Jalebi (pronounced juh-LAY-bee), a common type of mithai

Where Is Diwali Being Celebrated Around the World?

There are many options when it comes to celebrating the holiday — here is a list of a few major events by continent to get you started!

Diwali Fest, October 17-26, Canada (movie screening available)
27th Annual Deepavali Festival, was held on October 5, New York City

Victorian Festival of Diwali, October 25, Melbourne, Australia (movie screening available)

Diwali in London, was held on October 12, London, England

Deepavali Singapore 2014, October 23, Singapore

Regardless of how we choose to observe Diwali, everyone can celebrate a spark of fire in the darkness! Will you make plans to celebrate Diwali? Want to get in on the fun? Let us know in the comments!

Get Ready for Choi Jin Hyuk’s Return in ‘Pride and Prejudice’!

Choi Jin Hyuk returns in the new drama ‘Pride and Prejudice,’ starting Monday!

It has only been two months since Choi Jin Hyuk’s last K-drama, “Fated to Love You,” has been off the air. But if you’re a diehard fan, those were the longest eight weeks of your life! So we know you’re excited for his return in the new drama “Pride and Prejudice,” which starts Monday!

Choi Jin Hyuk plays a tough prosecutor in Pride and Prejudice

In the new drama, Choi Jin Hyuk will play a prosecutor named Koo Dong Chi who fights to stay on the right side of the law, even in the face of colleagues who blur the lines between corruption and justice, right and wrong. We can’t wait to see Choi Jin Hyuk playing a tough prosecutor who brings bad guys to justice. If there’s anything this actor has perfected in his many popular drama roles in recent years is a strong male characters who protect the people around him.

To get emotionally ready to see Choi Jin Hyuk in his new drama, “Pride and Prejudice,” which starts Monday, travel down memory lane with us at his past roles that have solidified his status as one of the hottest Korean actors working today!

Playing the renowned artist Daniel Pitt, Choi Jin Hyuk proves that he has a big heart as he protects Kim Mi Young (played by Jang Na Ra) as our favorite “neighborhood older brother.”

The protective Daniel Pitt in ‘Fated to Love You (aka You Are My Destiny)

Emergency Couple (2014)

In this medical drama series, Choi Jin Hyuk plays Chang Min, an emergency medicine physician doing his internship rotation at a hospital. When one of the other interns happens to be his ex-wife, Jin Hee (played by Song Ji Hyo), work life becomes that much more complicated in an already stressful and demanding emergency department.

The doctor is in as Chang Min in ‘Emergency Couple

Heirs (2013)

In no other role has Choi Jin Hyuk been more sophisticated and debonaire than in his role as Kim Won, the successful young executive running his father’s conglomerate.

Gu Family Book (2013)

Although Choi Jin Hyuk had starred in many dramas since launching his acting career after winning the grand prize in the KBS reality talent show “Survival Star Audition” in 2006, it was his fierce, commanding performance as the beast Wal Ryung, the guardian god protecting the Jiri Mountains, in this supernatural drama in 2013 that elevated his status to a major star. Evil never looked so good!

I Need Romance (2011)

We had no problems believing that Choi Jin Hyuk’s character in this drama series is a genius. His Bae Sung Hyun character is a member of Mensa, has a double degree in business and hotel management from an Ivy League college and even went on to earn a Ph.D. Brains also never looked so good!

Sung Hyun has a soft spot in ‘I Need Romance

It’s Alright, Daddy’s Daughter (2010)

The noticeably baby-faced Choi Jin Hyuk plays Hyuk Ki, a hard-working, driven young man who works all kinds of odd jobs to put himself through law school and become a prosecutor. With his hard-earned credentials, he helps the heroine get the justice she seeks in this touching drama.

Vote Now: Who Is the Manliest ‘Flower Boy’?

Did you enjoy our The 10 Hottest Asian ‘Bagel’ Girls blog? To be fair, we decided to follow up with guys — Flower Boys to be exact!

A “Flower Boy” is a term used to describe males with pretty faces and delicate features. They have well-groomed, polished looks and perhaps seem metrosexual. But, in fact, they have bodies that might surprise you, too!

Here are our picks for the 13 Manliest Flower Boys that show it’s possible to be blessed with an angel face and a devilish body. Let us know if you agree with our list and vote for your favorite manly Flower Boy below!

Song Joong Ki

Song Joong Ki rose to fame with his roles in “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” and variety show “Running Man.” However, it was his starring turn in “The Innocent Man” that truly solidified his acting cred. Song Joong Ki has been missing in action due to Korea’s mandatory two-year military service, but he is expected to return in May, so get ready!

Jang Geun Suk

Jang Geun Suk started out as a child actor, but he has grown up quite nicely, if we don’t mind saying so ourself! Do you know he speaks three different languages (English, Japanese and Korean), sings and plays guitar? Check out these talents on display in “You’re Beautiful” and “Marry Me, Mary!”

Aaron Yan

This cutie debuted as the youngest member of Taiwanese pop group Fahrenheit in 2005. Since then, Aaron Yan has branched out into acting, with leading roles in “Just You” and “Fall in Love With Me.” We definitely want to see Aaron Yan spend more time on the small screen. How about you?

Lee Jong Suk

There’s no way we could leave out fan favorite Lee Jong Suk! He made the right decision to leave modeling behind and dive into acting, as his rising popularity is thanks to his roles in “School 2013,” “I Hear Your Voice” and, most recently, “Doctor Stranger.”

Lee Min Ho

It was love at first sight for many fans of Lee Min Ho after seeing him playing the charismatic Goo Joon Pyo in “Boys Over Flowers,” but the love grew as you followed him in “Personal Taste,” “City Hunter,” “The Great Doctor” and “Heirs.” Which Lee Min Ho character is your favorite?

Kim Woo Bin

Our favorite second lead from “Heirs” is a must-have on this list! At first glance, Kim Woo Bin gives off a cold vibe (maybe leftover Blue Steel poses from his former modeling days). But then as you look deeper into his beautiful eyes, you realize he has a warm side that melts your heart. Catch more of him in “School 2013” and “A Gentleman’s Dignity”!

George Hu

George Hu has spent the past eight years building up his acting career, and it has paid off as he has gained huge popularity from leading roles in “Love Around,” “Love, Now” and “Love Cheque Charge.” Love seems to be a common theme here, and it makes sense with a heartthrob like George who oozes romance!

Kim Soo Hyun

How could we not adore Kim Soo Hyun, right? He can act, sing and just look so crazy handsome. We’ve watched his career skyrocket from “Dream High” and “The Moon Embracing the Sun” to “My Love From the Star.” We can’t wait for his future work!

Check out his jealous “aegyo” scene from Episode 15 of “My Love From the Star.”

Kim Bum

Our Kim Bum love affair started with the epic “Boys Over Flowers,” when we all rooted for the Yi Jung-and-Ga Eul (played by Kim So Eun) couple. Since then, he has developed his acting skills with roles in “That Winter, The Wind Blows” and “Jung Yi, the Goddess of Fire,” as well as the Chinese drama “V Love.”

Jasper Liu

He probably wasn’t on your radar before, but “Love Myself or You” has put Jasper Liu on the map. His signature curly, broccoli hair is all natural and reminds us of a cute poodle. Jasper recently celebrated his birthday on August 12, and we hope he had a great one!

Nam Woo Hyun

It looks like the main vocalist of the K-pop group Infinite caught the acting bug from fellow members Hoya (from “Answer Me 1997”), L (from “Cunning Single Lady” and “She’s So Lovable”), and Lee Sung Yeol (co-star from “Hi! School: Love On”). Nam Woo Hyun is known for his fan service but combined with his killer abs, he’s simply irresistible!

Im Si Wan

As a K-pop idol, it’s always hard making the transition into acting, but Im Si Wan recently received critical acclaim for his role in “Triangle.” Now, you can catch him in “Incomplete Life,” which just premiered on October 17! Do you enjoy seeing him more on the small screen or the stage?

Yuki Furukawa

After only two years in the industry, Yuki Furukawa’s big break came in 2013 when he landed the role of Naoki in “Mischievous Kiss: Love in TOKYO.” His Japanese is perfect, but Yuki also is fluent in English, which he gets to show off in the teaser episode of the second season “Mischievous Kiss 2: Love in TOKYO.” A guy who can speak multiple languages is just so dreamy!

20 Spooky Shows to Put You in the Halloween Spirit

A man sprouts iron swords from his body when upset in ‘Iron Man

Halloween, also known as “All Hallow’s Eve,” is observed on October 31 as a day of celebration and superstition. Believed to have originated from the old Celtic festival of “Samhain,” when people would set bonfires and don costumes to scare away roaming ghosts, the trick-or-treating and fright-focused day is a very popular holiday in the United States and Canada but is gaining popularity in many other parts of the world, including Australia, much of Europe and Asia. To put you in the right frame of mind for the annual frightfest, we have just the spooky dramas for the occasion!

Here are our recommendations for recent dramas that you may have missed that have a scary or supernatural theme! This is a great time to grab a teddy bear, a warm blanket, and get ready to be spooked as you catch up on these great series from this year!

Iron Man

You might be surprised to learn that this current drama — about a tough CEO of a gaming company who suddenly begins to sprout dangerous iron swords from his body whenever he gets angry — is quite funny and full of unexpected comedic moments. The great acting by the seasoned actors in the drama make this a true delight to watch despite the dark storyline.

Lee Dong Wook becomes superhuman when he gets angry in ‘Iron Man

Love Cheque Charge

A man is involved in an accident, but before he dies, he grabs a random stranger and asks him to relay to his girlfriend that he is breaking up with her. He loves her so much that he thinks she would get over him more quickly if she thinks he broke up with her rather than died. But his spirit can’t move onto the next world, lingering in his girlfriend’s life to make sure that she is taken care of. A touching — but also a little creepy — thing, right?

A woman’s former boyfriend (in the form of an angel) watches over her in ‘Love Cheque Charge’

The Night Watchman

A prince during the Chosun Dynasty has the unique ability to communicate with the spirit world. So naturally, he becomes the leader of a group of night watchmen who patrol the streets from dusk to dawn to protect the citizens against nasty ghosts and other evil spirits. If it were me, I’d hide under my pillow and cry, “I see dead people…” But then, I’m doing that anyway just watching all the scary spirits in this drama! You’ll be scared silly.

The ghost-fighting warriors in ‘The Night Watchman

A group of young, good-looking police detectives dive into a giant aquarium that is holding two old bodies, and they emerge having aged 50 years themselves! They have to hunt down a mysterious man named Goldfish to find the antidote that will reverse their aging bodies or face living the rest of their natural lives as septuagenarians (people in their 70s)! How scary is that?

The young police detectives are staring at their own fate in a few minutes
in ‘Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Team

A young guardian angel — whose job is to lead people into the afterlife when their “time” comes — is suddenly knocked into becoming a human when she tries to save a high school boy from a premature death. As she tries to figure out her new life as a teenage girl until her superior can figure out how to return her to her angel form, the angel discovers that high school can be quite treacherous!

An angel-turned-high-school-girl tries to figure out how to navigate her human life in ‘Hi! School: Love On’

What could be more terrifying to a mother than the thought of her beautiful daughter being kidnapped and killed for some inexplicable reason? That’s the premise of this scary drama series that will get your heart thumping! When the mom is somehow given the chance to go back in time to stop the kidnapper, can she change the course of events and save her daughter’s life?

A young girl and the private investigator trying to help her change her fate in ‘God’s Gift — 14 Days’

In what will go down in history as his most iconic role, Kim Soo Hyun plays a 400-year-old alien teacher in this drama, which was one of the most-watched and heralded series of the year. We don’t have to say anything more about this surreal alien-and-actress love story. You just have to watch it!
