Learn These 5 Terms to Celebrate Thanksgiving Bollywood-Style!

$
0
0

The responsibilities of Bollywood fandom are many, but a particularly critical skill is talking the talk. Luckily, by adding just a few terms to your vocabulary, you can sound like a diehard fan! This Thanksgiving, as you gather with friends and family for some quality time, throw these basic Bollywood terms into conversations (when appropriate), and you’ll earn some valuable street cred! For context, it’s my pleasure to introduce Akshay and Amir, best friends reuniting for a very desi Thanksgiving!

Desi” (pronounced THEY-see) — Anyone or anything originating from South Asian culture.

Example: “There sure are a lot of desis celebrating Thanksgiving this year,” noted Akshay. “True story,” agreed Amir. “I had to fight for the last turkey at the grocery store with a desi grandmother!”

Masala” (pronounced muh-SAH-lah) — Literally, a blend of spices/curries. In the Bollywood context, it’s a movie that blends a romantic musical with at least one other genre.

Example: Akshay tasted the holiday dishes, asking, “What did you use in this chicken masala? It’s delicious!” Amir replied, “Oh, that’s actually turkey but with desi spices. I was going to put on some random masala movie and feast.” “Another wild Thanksgiving!” said Akshay.

Yaar” (pronounced yaah-r, ideally without pirate-like intonation) — Friend, man, girl, girlfriend, buddy, bro, dude. Often used either at the beginning or end of a statement/question for emphasis.

Example: “Yaar, can you do me a favor and pick up some Shan masala from the desi store? I used all of it for the turkey!” asked Akshay. “No problem!” replied Amir, “Anything for you, yaar.”

Timepass” (pronounced exactly how you’d expect, but with a soft “a” as in “father”) — Movies/TV shows that lack depth but are enjoyable enough for leisure or passive viewing. Often said with a hand gesture emphasizing the speaker’s indifference (but that’s advanced, don’t worry about incorporating movements just yet!).

Example: “All of these desis keep raving about that new masala movie ‘Happy New Year’! We should go see it,” said Akshay as he waltzed into the room, face covered in recently cooked chicken masala. “No way, yaar, it’s just another timepass,” mused Amir. Akshay wiped some masala from his brow and gazed downwards, feeling supremely uncool.

Filmi” (pronounced FILM-ee) — The accompanying music of Bollywood releases, typically from masala movies. Identifiable by its (often formulaic) mix of Eastern and Western musical sensibilities.

Example: Akshay washed the masala off his face and put on some filmi to cheer himself up. I'm thankful for my great taste in desi music, he thought to himself. Who cares if Amir thinks it’s just timepass?

We agree, yaar. This Thanksgiving, we’re thankful for diversity in opinion, which is what makes Viki and the world such an incredible place!

Now go forth, socialize and feast, comfortable with your newfound knowledge of Bollywood buzzwords. Come back soon for more language insight and tips!

Siwan ‘Completes’ Us: Happy 26th Birthday!

Yim Si Wan, better known by his stage name Siwan, is a triple threat — boyish good looks, sweet singing voice and smooth dance moves, and now, accomplished actor whose stardom will only escalate with his growing talent. The young star turns 26 today, and we expect great things in his bright future!

This was a breakout year for Siwan. After making his 2010 music debut with the hot nine-member K-pop boy band ZE:A, he began to catch people’s eye with his roles in the dramas “The Moon Embracing the Sun” and “The Equator Man” and the TV movie “Hope for Dating.” But Siwan has truly become a household name this year with his starring roles in “Triangle” and the currently airing “Incomplete Life.”

In the current hit drama, Siwan plays the quiet, easy-going Jang Geu Rae, an intern and then new hire at a large international trading company called One International. At first hazed by others for being a “parachute hire” (hired through nepotism) and only having a GED (high school equivalency degree), Geu Rae uses the strategies he learned in playing a Korean board game called badeuk to survive in the dog-eat-dog corporate world — capturing our hearts along the way!

As Jang Geu Rae in ‘Incomplete Life,’ Siwan makes an ID lanyard look seriously sexy!

Siwan as the young Heo Yeom in ‘The Moon Embracing the Sun

As Jang Dong Woo, Siwan proves he can be tough and ruthless in ‘Triangle

Siwan is the awkward Jung Jin Kook approaching a beautiful girl in ‘Hope for Dating

Happy birthday to the talented young star! We look forward to all of your future works!

Top 10 Newcomer/Breakout Drama Stars of 2014!

$

2014 was a great year in the drama world! We saw the rise of huge global hits like “My Love From the Star” and the comeback of fan favorites like Rain in “She’s So Lovable.” Maybe you shed a few tears, yelled at the screen, or laughed so hard that your stomach hurt. So many great dramas this year have kept us glued to our screens and made us forsake other parts of our lives! So we’d like to give credit where credit is due and recap the best of the best for all-things drama in 2014.

We’re starting everything off with our list of the Top 10 Newcomers and Breakout Drama Stars of 2014! These actors and actresses became a household name with their drama roles or took their careers to the next level and became a bona fide star this year!

Newcomer Stars

Kang Ha Neul — Incomplete Life’ and Angel Eyes’

Kang Ha Neul did appear in “To the Beautiful You,” “Monstar” and “Heirs,” but his more meaty roles in 2014’s “Angel Eyes” and “Incomplete Life” are making him a household name this year. Did you know he’s close friends with Kim So Eun from “Boys Over Flowers” after they attended Chung-Ang University together? Remember his face because we predict that he’ll be in the breakout star list next year!

Seo Kang Joon — What Happens to My Family? and Cunning Single Lady

Seo Kang Joon only debuted in 2013, but this handsome newcomer has women everywhere falling in love with his dreamy hazel eyes! It has been a super busy year for him, but now he’ll be playing double duty. As the leader of K-pop group “5urprise,” Seo Kang Joon also has made his official music industry debut with the release of the group’s first single on November 18. Keep an eye out!

Park Seo Joon — ‘A Witch’s Romance

Continuing with the popular noona romance theme (older woman + younger man) from “Secret Love Affair” and “Cunning Single Lady,” Park Seo Joon played the young suitor wooing Uhm Jung Hwa’s character in “A Witch’s Romance” this year. If his good looks weren’t enough, he also can sing and is featured on the drama’s OST. He’s managed by KeyEast, the same agency as Kim Soo Hyun (from “My Love From the Star”) and Kim Hyun Joong (from “Inspiring Generation”), so hopefully he’ll follow in their footsteps to becoming a top star!

Breakout Stars

Kang So Ra — Incomplete Life’ and Doctor Stranger’

Kang So Ra rose to fame after starring in the 2011 movie “Sunny,” for which she received a flood of Best New Actress nominations at award shows. Soon thereafter, she appeared in the variety show “We Got Married Season 3” with Super Junior’s Leeteuk and “Dream High 2.” This year, we believe she has honed her acting craft and taken over the spotlight as a serious lead actress. We can’t wait for the stunning star’s future roles!

Choi Jin Hyuk — ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and ‘Fated to Love You

Choi Jin Hyuk has been on a roll lately and is currently starring in the on-air drama “Pride and Prejudice.” But brace yourselves, ladies, because he’ll soon be enlisting for his two-year mandatory military service! He’s definitely come a long way from his minor role in “Pasta” when he was still acting under the name Kim Tae Ho, but we knew he had potential. This was a breakout year for the handsome actor, with major roles in “Emergency Couple” and “Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Unit” in addition to his two most recent starring roles.

Tia Li — ‘Fall in Love With Me

In this Taiwanese drama, Tia Li starred opposite the handsome Aaron Yan, which is something she shares in common with Puff Guo, her fellow Dream Girls’ group member who played his partner in the hit “Just You.” For Tia, this year’s “Fall in Love With Me” was her first leading role. But we predict that it won’t be long before this young actress will become a major star!

Jasper Liu — ‘Love Myself or You

Jasper Liu is just as famous for his curly broccoli hair as for his playful side, which is evidenced by his bromance with co-star Jolin Chien and selca spree with Puff Guo. He has played major roles in dramas before, but this has been the year that he has became a true household name. We can’t wait to see what roles he chooses next!

Jin Se Yeon — ‘Doctor Stranger’ and ‘Inspiring Generation

Jin Se Yeon is only 20 years old! But in her four-year acting career, she has received wide acclaim for her great acting skills. Jin Se Yeon slowly built up her credibility with her roles in “It’s Alright, Daddy’s Daughter,” “Bridal Mask” and “Five Fingers.” It seems like this year, she has hit her stride and there’s no stopping her from becoming even more popular!

Chris Wu — Rock ‘n’ Road

For Chris Wu, it all started with a supporting role in 2009’s “Autumn’s Concerto.” In 2013, he finally reached leading-man status in “The Princess’ Stand In.” His years of hard work totally paid off as he continued to climb in popularity with this year’s music-themed drama “Rock ‘n’ Road.” Sadly, Chris Wu is not on the market as he recently announced that he is in a serious relationship! But we couldn’t be happier for him!

Yoo In Na — ‘My Secret Hotel’ and ‘My Love From the Star’

Eleven years and five agencies later, Yoo In Na landed her big break in 2009 at the age of 27. Since then, she has quickly risen in the industry with roles in “The Greatest Love” and “Secret Garden,” for which she won Best New Actress at the Baeksang Arts Awards. This year, she claimed her spotlight as a leading lady with her role in “My Secret Hotel”! Yoo In Na was even invited to KCON 2014 in Los Angeles to promote her beauty show. Check out her interview with Eric Nam on the red carpet!

New Thai Series on Viki – Love, Action & Comedy!

We listened to your requests about adding new Thai shows and are happy to report that they are finally on Viki! If you enjoyed watching popular U.S. sitcoms like “Friends” and “How I Met Your Mother,” then you’ll enjoy these Thai shows. They’re lighthearted and playful with a great mix of romance and drama, but with an added bonus of crime-fighting detectives! What more could you ask for?

See below to learn about these exciting new Thai sitcoms and the reasons why you should be watching them!

‘Hapa’ Hotness

The term “hapa” is used to describe anyone of mixed ethnic heritage. However, if the hapa is of mixed Thai origin, then he/she is called “ลูกครึ่ง” or “luk khrueng.”

In “True Love Next Door,” two of the main leads, Paula Taylor and Sunny Suwanmethanon, are luk khruengs. Paul is of Thai-British descent while Sunny is of Thai-Singaporean-French descent. This probably explains their exotic good looks!

Paula Taylor rocks her red lipstick along with a beautiful smile

Sunny Suwanmethanon shows off his manly good looks

Classic Love Triangles and One-Sided Loves

Nothing beats watching a battle over a woman’s heart, especially when the guys are complete opposites, such as in “True Love Next Door”! One is a musician (played by Sunny Suwanmethanon) with a bad mouth while the other is a nerdy scientist (played by Bo Thanakorn Chinakul). Do either of them have a chance?

Meanwhile, in “The Bedside Detective,” you’ll find a sweet girl, Amm (played by Pattie Ungsumalin Sirapatsakmetha), in love with Chalam (played by Dan Worrawech Danuwong), but he only sees her as an annoyance. The beautiful thing is that after meeting on the set of this sitcom, Pattie and Dan have been a real-life couple since 2009!

Additional Eye Candy

We know the previously mentioned luk khruengs aren’t the only reasons to watch Thai shows, so check out these other Thai hotties, too!

Noona Neungthida Sophon

For K-drama fans, her nickname is pronounced just like the Korean word for older sister! In “Opas the Series,” Noona is reunited with costar Ter Chantavit Dhanasevi from the movie “Hello Stranger.” We bet you’d be surprised to learn that she has had a long career in music since 2007!

Ter Chantavit Dhanasevi

It was only in 2010 with the blockbuster romantic comedy “Hello Stranger” that Ter became a household name for his comedic acting chops! Since then, he followed up with another hit movie “ATM,” which included his “Opas the Series Season 2” costar, Ice Preechaya Pongthananikorn.

Pattie Ungsumalin Sirapatsakmetha

In the six years since her debut, Pattie has become a well-established actress with popular movies such as “Bangkok Traffic Love Story” and “Valentine Sweety,” and the breakout teen series “Hormones” under her belt. She even brought her cute charms to “The Bedside Detective.” We expect to continue seeing much more of her in the future!

Dan Worrawech Danuwong

Pattie’s boyfriend is actually a former member of the famous boy band D2B, but he has worked hard to build up his acting credibility over the years. Dan has landed starring roles in sitcom “The Bedside Detective” and movies “Bangkok Sweety” and “Valentine Sweety.”

Here’s the complete list of the new Thai sitcoms on Viki:

The great news about these sitcoms is that they’re all available worldwide (except Thailand)!

Warning: You May Fall in Love With Annie Chen of ‘Boysitter’!

We’re highly anticipating the Saturday premiere of “Boysitter,” the new Taiwanese drama starring Annie Chen, River Huang and Melvin Sia! The star-studded cast of “Boysitter” is led by the stunning Annie Chen, whom you may recognize from “Love, Now,” “Love Around” or a number of other popular dramas. In case you aren’t familiar with this accomplished 25-year-old, here are five fun facts about her (but we have to warn you that reading any further will put you at risk of falling in love with the beautiful actress!).

Annie is a huge dog lover and hopes that her other half will love dogs as much as she does!

Annie ruined an on-set surprise birthday party for her “Boysitter” co-star River Huang by shouting “Happy Birthday!” too early.

In 2012, Annie was the ambassador for the charity organization HAPPY. For one HAPPY event, Annie donated NT$100 for every cake that the organization sold!

Annie’s dog, Chelsea, was adopted for her role in “Boysitter.” Annie took Chelsea to all of her shoots, worried the dog would be lonely and scared if left alone.

Annie won the first “Catwalk Girl” competition.

For more Annie Chen, check out “Love, Now” and “Inborn Pair.” Also, don’t forget about our Live Tweet event for the “Boysitter” premiere! If you want to watch the premiere at the same time as  thousands of other fans from all over the world and live tweet about it, you can join us at 7 p.m. PST / 3 a.m. GMT on Wednesday, December 10!

Love Annie Chen already? Let us know what you love the most about her in the comments!

Top 10 Wedding Fashions in 2014 Dramas

$

0

Dramas give us a lot of things: fun storylines, hot leads, amazing fashion ideas — but sometimes painful feels. On the few occasions that dramas aren’t stressing us out, though, characters are actually getting together. And that’s what we’ve decided to celebrate happy weddings!

Drama weddings are the greatest! The venue is always beautiful, the decoration is perfect, and the guests are always beautiful. And of course, the bride and groom are always the most beautiful of them all! These are the weddings of dreams, and at center stage are always gorgeous wedding dresses and tuxedos. Here are the best wedding fashions from our favorite dramas from 2014!

Screen Shot 2014-11-07 at 2.46.56 PM.png

The wedding of Hae Soo (played by Gong Hyo Jin) and Jae Yeol (played by Jo In Sung) is only revealed with a passing camera shot of this wedding photo on the couple’s nightstand at the end of the drama series. But we can still see the simple, sleeveless wedding dress with the tasteful headband that Hae Soo chose to wear and the classic black tuxedo that Jae Yeol wore. We loved the conventional, classic look of the very unconventional couple!

wedding_day.png

Hotel heiress Mo Ne (played by Lee Da Hae) dons an surprisingly demure wedding dress for her marriage to Jae Wan (played by Lee Dong Wook). Mo Ne’s dress is a completely unadorned white sheath with a conservative bodice and half-length sleeves, contrasting quite strongly with her character’s flighty and young personality.

Kotoko (played by Honoka Miki) and Naoki (played by Yuki Furukawa) opted to go off-white with both their wedding dress and tuxedo, and we loved their choices! Naoki’s tuxedo is stunning with his two-toned jacket, with the vest matching the darker tone and the tie matching the lighter tone. Kokoko is glowing in her off-white bodice with the pink tulle layered dress. The dress is unique in its Japanese kawaii influences. It draws from the the Japanese hime-kei, or “princess style,” fashion subculture.

Jang Mi (played by Han Groo) makes an elegant and gorgeous bride in her simple, lacy wedding dress and subtle, out-of-the-way veil. Gi Tae (played by Yeon Woo Jin) is equally debonaire in his classic black tux and crisp white shirt. How can any parent not approve when their son brings home such a stunning beauty?

vlcsnap-00004.png

Wedding dresses come in all flavors and cultures, and we love the traditional Korean hanbok that Bo Ri (played by Oh Yeon Seo) and Ji Hoon (played by Lee Jae Hwa) wore on their wedding day. The wedding is quite cute, and the dots on her face add to the cuteness. Traditional should definitely be the new wedding vogue!

JangHyuk_JangNaRa_FTLY_Wedding_bc5_zpsf589b2e7.jpg

Mi Young (played by Jang Na Ra) is glowing with happiness in her soft, ethereal wedding dress. We love the sweeping neckline and the delicate, lace sleeves. Gun (played by Jang Hyuk) looks suave and sophisticated in his black tuxedo with the scarf accent. Both the groom and the bride’s happiness gave the wedding ceremony an airy feel.

Angel eyes (2).png

This wedding comes to us in a dream sequence, and the wedding dress worn by Soo Wan (played by Gu Hye Sun) is exactly what dreams are made of. It’s the perfect classic dress — a sheer, lacy layer over the creamy bodice with a stunning, full veil! We love the classic black tux and bow tie of Dong Joo (played by Lee Sang Yoon) with the added touch of the white gloves. Who wouldn’t consider this look for their dream wedding?

unnamed.png

Although Hong Joo (played by Park Ha Sun) is not the happiest bride on the day of her second marriage to Min Woo (played by Lee Jung Jin), she makes a gorgeous bride! We love the unending layers of soft tulle in her dress and the matching flowing veil! But Min Woo has to be given his due credit for choosing to wear a baby pink tuxedo. Pink tuxedo wins the day!

Fall in Love With Me

When Le Si (played by Tia Li) and Tian Xing (played by Aaron Yan) finally walk down the aisle, they are one of the most beautiful couples you will ever see playing a bride and groom! The heart-shaped bodice with the sheer lace overlay of Le Si’s wedding dress is absolutely stunning. And let’s face it — Aaron Yan can wear anything and make it look good! His simple tux only helps to accentuate his natural good looks.

The Way We Were

When Wei De (played by Leroy Young) learns that his cancer is back, the only thing he wants to do is marry Jia Ni (played by Ruby Lin) and spend every minute with her. At their bittersweet wedding, the bride and groom look happy because they are finally marrying each other. Jia Ni looks beautiful in her sleeveless A-line wedding dress with embroidered flowers and V-shaped diamond necklace and matching headband. Wei De looks dashing in his black tux and checkered gray vest!

Honey Butter Chip — What the Latest Hallyu Craze Tastes Like!

$

Have you heard about the latest Hallyu craze? It’s not a new K-pop group or a new K-drama starring Lee Min Ho. It’s a potato chip— and it’s so hot that it’s impossible to find in stores in Korea and they are being resold online for well over $100 for three bags! Just how good can this chip be??? Ohhhhh …  read on!

Haetae Confectionary & Foods Co., the second-largest confectionary company in South Korea, just introduced Honey Butter Chip in August, and sales have already gone through the roof. The company is scrambling to hire thousands of new employees to increase production of the popular chip, which the company says is made with “French butter and acacia honey.”

It’s UNBELIEVABLE how quickly these little “chips of heaven” are sold out — within 10 minutes of restocking the shelves NATIONWIDE! Not only that, it’s amazing to see the willingness and persistence of Korean people to get their hands on this snack. It has become so ridiculous to the point that they are limiting the number of bags one person can buy to only TWO, and convenience stores are putting up signs on the door stating that they are OUT of these chips.

‘No Honey Butter Chips’ sign on GS25 convenience store in Korea

So just how GOOD can these chips be, right? They’re just potato chips! I mean, you don’t see people going on a shopping craze for Pringles or Kettle Chips, now, do you? But people are seriously bidding on eBay, and the closing bid for three bags of these devil snacks was $122.50 yesterday! Whaaaa?! Are these chips laced with gold?!

A 3-bag set of Honey Butter Chip sold on eBay yesterday for $122.50!

Embarrassingly enough, because my husband has hopped on this cray-cray wagon, I have gotten my hands on these impossible-to-find chips and have actually tasted them! It’s funny how my husband was the one acting all nonchalant about it at first, saying stuff like people have gone mad for these chips but it’ll all fade soon, yadayadayada… Now, HE’S the one going to 10 different convenience stores, two different E-mart traders (Korean Costco) in two different area codes … BUT his persistence paid off!

We FINALLY got a bag of these chips, plus a bundle of three other snacks from the same company as a “condition” to buy just ONE bag of Honey Butter Chip. Pretty absurd, if you ask me, but kudos to the marketing team at Haetae/Calbee (you devils!). So, my husband calls me, as if he had won the lottery or something, and tells me that “papa is bringing the baby home.” Uhmmm, OK? And of course, he gets home with half of the bag empty. Geez, so much for waiting, huh? Thanks, honey. -.-;;;;

BUT, to my pleasant surprise, these chips … were GOOD — so good, in fact, that I regretted knowing what they tasted like because they were gone all too quickly. But for those of you who HAVE to know what they taste like — Honey Butter Chip tastes like honey butter popcorn in the form of a potato chip. It’s just the right balance of salty and sweet and buttery goodness. Not too sweet to be overwhelming. Juuuuust perfect.  #sorrynotsorry #honeybutterchipshell #baghalfempty

Even our favorite celebrities can’t seem to get enough and are showing off their stash of the infamous Honey Butter Chip! Double eye candy! YUM!

Siwon of Super Junior (‘King of Dramas’) posted this selfie of a
Japanese version of Honey Butter Chip!

Hopefully, as Haetae increases production of these delicious chips, they will be more readily available and we can all return to living like civilized human beings! Have you tried these chips? Let us know what you think of this new Hallyu craze in the comments!

8 Stars We’d Like to Thank for Making a Comeback!

Here in the realm of all things Asian drama, we like to see our favorite stars stay on the screen in perpetuity. We can’t stand it when they finish a project and we have to wait months, sometimes years, for them to return to us! No matter how short or long a time period between projects, to diehard fans, the wait is always too long.

Here are eight Asian actors and actresses that we’d like to thank for making a comeback with their great new series. Please stick around for awhile!

Park Shin Hye — Pinocchio

The drama world fell in love with Park Shin Hye back in 2003 with her debut in “Stairway to Heaven.” Picked from 250 contestants, her performance as the younger Han Jung Seo sealed her future as a promising young talent. Park Shin Hye then catapulted to stardom with her roles in “You’re Beautiful,” “Flower Boy Next Door” and the mega-hit “Heirs.” But it took her almost a full year after “Heirs” went off the air last December for her to return in her current role in “Pinocchio” — but it was worth the wait!

Annie Chen — Boysitter

You may know Annie Chen from her frequent on- and off-screen pairings with George Hu in popular dramas like “Love Around” and “Love, Now.” This month, she’s back to star in a great new romantic comedy series “Boysitter.” Join us tonight at 7 p.m. to participate in our Live Tweet event for the “Boysitter” premiere!

Han Ye Seul — Birth of a Beauty

Ever since winning a modeling contest in 2001, Han Ye Seul has won numerous Best Actress awards for her popular film and drama roles, including “Couple Fantasy” and “Will It Snow for Christmas?” But it took three years since her last drama role for the star to return in the currently airing hit drama “Birth of a Beauty” and her fans couldn’t be happier. Her return to the small screen is a triumphant one, with a role that promises to be one of her best!

Joo Sang Wook — Birth of a Beauty

Joo Sang Wook established himself as a talented performer in a number of dramas in the mid-2000s, the most memorable being 2010’s “Giant.” Since then, he has been hard at work showing off his six-pack from different angles and lighting! But this year has been one of his best, with what promises to be two hit shows — “Cunning Single Lady” “Birth of Beauty.”

2014 was abuzz with Yuki Furukawa as he returned as Naoki for the sequel of “Mischievous Kiss: Love in TOKYO” with the highly anticipated “Mischievous Kiss 2: Love in TOKYO,” which recounts the events following his honeymoon with on-screen wife Kotoko (played Miki Honoka). We are excited to see what’s in store for the cutest new married couple in dramaland!

Seo In Guk — The King’s Face

Seo In Guk entered the world of entertainment as a singer after winning the 2009 reality show “Superstar K.” But his celebrity status was cemented with his critically acclaimed roles in the very popular dramas “Answer Me 1997” and “King of High School.” There has been much buzz around Seo In Guk’s first sageuk (historical drama) with his current role in “The King’s Face.” The suspenseful and exciting new drama promises to further elevate the rising star’s career!

Takuya Kimura

Staying relevant after early stardom is a challenge, and yet Takuya Kimura has achieved exactly that. You may know him from the ’90s Japanese boy band SMAP, but in true comeback fashion, he has regained footing in the entertainment world with the hit series “Hero,” which debuted in 2001. “Hero” was followed by a feature film as well as a record-breaking sequel series, “Hero 2”!

Lee Jong Suk

As a male model at the age of 15, Lee Jong Suk set the bar high for himself going into adolescence. He successfully made the leap to acting and became a breakout star after his roles in “School 2013,” “I Hear Your Voice” and “Doctor Stranger.” He is back alongside Park Shin Hye in the exciting new drama “ Pinocchio,” and we love the chemistry between the two stars in the series and can’t wait to see more of them!

Who is your favorite comeback star? Let us know in the comments!

6 Must-Know Dating Tips From ‘Boysitter’ Episode 1

$

Are you a fan of Annie Chen and River Huang? Did you miss out on our Live Twitter Event where we watched the Episode 1 of the fun new Taiwanese drama Boysitter together? Don’t worry! Viki has picked out the best highlights from the first episode and outlined six great tips for dating and relationships, so you can get caught up!

And if you saw an anxious, claustrophobic and aviophobic long-haired passenger in the beginning of the episode, don’t freak out. She’s not the main lead!

Learn the ‘Art of Seduction’ According to Jian Ren

  • Offer to take care of a fellow crazed passenger in order to get in the good graces of the hot air stewardess
  • Clink wine glasses with her and tell her you’re looking forward to tonight’s collaboration.
  • Seductively run your hands over the girl’s arms and say the magic words, “We should go somewhere with romantic music, lovely lights and a big bed.”

What We Think: Mmm, too cheesy for our liking. We’d rather he end up with the crazed passenger! Hehe.

Have the Bartender Foretell Your Relationship Future

    • Go to L’attende Bar with your hair tied up in pigtails (Yuan Fei is super cute!) and whisper the secret words, “Boss, wed like one chocolate cake” to get your destiny read by the boss of the bar.
    • A pink concoction “Love Magic” is delivered to you. Congratulations! You’re with your soulmate!
    • A slice of chocolate cake is shoved in front of you. Darn, you’re not fated with that man. Yuan Fei and Jian Ren got this. ouch.
    • But guess what, the pink concoction is supposed to break up these soulmates because the boss of the bar has issues with perfect relationships.

What We Think: What? So Annie and River will never end up together? Oh well, at least the aegyo at the bar was cute. Someone throw George Hu into this drama!

    Don’t Bring Your Past Baggage

    • Time flashes back to 2008, where Yuan Fei is pestering Jian Ren to marry her.
    • She wags her finger in front of his face and looks pointedly at him. Super obvious.Put a ring on it!
    • Jian Ren draws a black skull on the date and proceeds to tell Yuan Fei that this is the fourth time she has proposed to him in the past two months.
    • She bites him on the arm as punishment.

What We Think: Hold up, Yuan Fei! Guys might love a little initiative in his girl, but four times is waaaay too much!

Learn to Distingish Between Love and Marriage

      • Jian Ren’s crazy theory is that marriage is a bond between two unwilling parties.
      • He seems pretty determined that he can continue loving her for another 50 years without marriage.
      • Yuan Fei gives an epic look of disgust at his twisted theory and stomps off.

What We Think: Sorry, we’re with Yuan Fei on this one. A bond between two unwilling parties? This guy must have been watching one too many dramas.

How to Get Someone to Agree to Marry You — Temporarily

        • Throw the guy onto the bed.
        • Promise him great sex while slowly unbuttoning his shirt.
        • Coerce him into marrying you while slathering his face with kisses.

What We Think: Gotta admit, Yuan Fei was such a tease! It’s no wonder that Jian Ren couldn’t resist her. But it was short lived, unfortunately.

How to Break Up With a Jerk

          • Scribble in permanent red ink all over his bedsheets, screaming “Go to hell, Hao Jian Ren!”
          • Throw confetti all over his bed with fork-pierced condoms.

What We Think: Classy. Great exit. Where can we get some of those crazy condoms? Might make a pretty good Durex ad.

So what do you think of this first episode? Did you enjoy Annie and River’s bickering as much as we did? Let us know in the comments below!

Top 10 Best Drama Endings of 2014!

            $
            0
            0

Some dramas are sooooo good, you just don’t want them to end! You would watch them even if they had 50 episodes, 100 episodes or more! But when the inevitable ending comes, some drama endings are so good that they leave you very satisfied — if not always happy!

Here are our favorite drama endings — and yours!— from 2014! And don’t worry! We are not putting in any spoilers so that you can catch up on these great dramas if you haven’t seen them yet!

            My Love From the Star

Some love stories are so grand, so destined — so EPIC— that no barriers of time, distance or life form can keep them apart! Besides, if all alien teachers were as hot as Kim Soo Hyun, we’d all fall in love with them, too! For 400 years since first arriving on Earth from another planet, Do Min Joon (played by Kim Soo Hyun) has managed to keep himself free from human entanglements because he knows that one day, he would have to return to his home planet and won’t be able to take “anything or anyone” back with him. But that all changes when Min Joon meets modern-day actress Cheon Song Yi (played by Jun Ji Hyun). When a love is fated, you just can’t fight it. And when Min Joon realizes that he can no longer stay on Earth, he continues to fight through the space-time continuum until the very end to return to his love! Isn’t that how all love should be? Awww, the feels!

There’s no drama ending quite so satisfying as one where — after 52 long, suspense-filled episodes — everyone gets what they deserve! The evil Min Jung (played by Lee Yoo Ri) ends up with nothing but a bad perm and ajumma clothing, while the sweet Bo Ri (played by Oh Yeon Seo) and Jae Hwa (played by Kim Ji Hoon) finally get their happily-ever-after with Bi Dan. In an interesting twist, actress Lee Yoo Ri gets to show off her more likable side when she is reincarnated as a sweet schoolteacher!

This Korean remake of a popular Taiwanese drama became a huge hit due to the excellent acting of Jang Hyuk as the brash Lee Gun, the CEO with the most shattering laugh; Jang Na Ra as the mousy Kim Mi Young, who has a heart of gold; and the sexy Choi Jin Hyuk as the protective Daniel Pitt, a “neighborhood oppa” we all wish we had. We all rooted for Mi Young from the beginning of this drama because we loved the idea of a sweet, nerdy girl having two dashing men fighting over her. In the end, this drama taught us that being true to yourself, going after your own dreams, and then finding true love on your own terms are what will make you happy. And we’re OK with that!

There’s always an airport scene in dramas where someone leaves the country, and the person who is in love with that person tries desperately to catch the person but is always too late. In this case, the leaver is Wei Zhen (played by Kimi Hsia) and the chaser is Shu Yu (played by Chris Wu). He thinks he has lost her forever, but he is wrong! After going through so many ups and downs with each other, the two end up on the same stage months later, reliving a scene from their past when Wei Zhen was a child star. Wei Zhen is reclaiming her star status and her love life on her own terms, and for that, we say, “You go, girl!” You’ll come away from this ending smiling and feeling good, we promise!

It’s written in stone somewhere that if a man is from a wealthy family in a Korean drama, his choice of a woman will never be approved by his snobbish family. That is certainly the case for Chang Min (played by Choi Jin Hyuk), a medical student who comes from a well-to-do family of doctors. When he insists on marrying Jin Hee (played by Song Ji Hyo), who is wholly unsuitable for his family, Chang Min gets cut off by his family. Eventually, the strain of their relationship gets to them and they end up getting divorced. Years later, they meet again when they both are starting their medical internships at the same hospital! Even though Chang Min and Jin Hee begin to experience the same feelings they had for each other years ago, the drama ends realistically and there are no wedding bells at the end! You’ll have to see for yourself whether they end up back to together, but it was great to see the couple not making the same mistakes they made the first time around!

You can say that there is no miracle at the end of this drama. Despite his heroic battle with lymphoma, Wei De (played by Leroy Young) doesn’t find a miracle cure that allows him to shake it off and move on with his life. But Wei De manages to give Jia Ni (played by Ruby Lin) an unexpected gift that provides new purpose and meaning to her life! The ending to this touching drama is sad mixed with a sprinkle of hope and sentimentality — but you’ll come away knowing what true love is and how good friends can be absolutely essential to a life well-lived!

By the time this Korean drama ends, the viewer is heartbroken — not just because of the almost poetic ending, but also because one of the most smartly written dramas of the year is coming to an end. Although the title may make you think this drama is tawdry and salacious, it actually was one of the best scripted, delightfully nuanced, beautifully acted dramas of the year! It’s no wonder that Kim Hee Ae won the Best Female Acting award, Kim Hye Eun won Female Supporting Actress and Jung Sung Joo won the Writer’s Award at the recent 2014 APAN Star Awards. There is no happy ending in this drama in the usual sense, but the ending leaves us all somehow very satisfied because of its realism.

            In a Good Way

When you truly love something, you let it go. And the popular saying goes that if it returns to you, then it is yours to keep; but if it doesn’t, then it was never yours to have. In this empowering drama, Liu Chuan (played by Lego Li) and Jia En (played by Kirsten Ren) grow to love each other. But he becomes embroiled in his father’s political life and she has always wanted to go abroad to finish her studies. This heartwarming drama teaches us the many levels and manifestations of love. Helping the person you love achieve his or her dreams is the ultimate demonstration of your love for that person — and we, the viewers, were deeply touched!

The most satisfying endings to any revenge drama is when the bad person is finally brought to justice and the avenger finally finds peace! The intro and the special effects of this Korean drama make it feel like a superhero cartoon, but the tragedy that Dae Gu (played by Lee Seung Gi) experiences when he witnesses his own mother being murdered is all too real. Dae Gu becomes a police detective with the hopes of capturing the perpetrator of his childhood nightmare, but will his fellow rookie Soo Sun (Go Ah Ra) and team leader Pan Seok (Cha Seung Won) help or hinder him in his quest for revenge? Even though the bad guy gets caught in the end, one of our heroes will have to pay a price! So is it a happy ending or not? You’ll have to see it to find out!

Unless you suffer from a medical condition that has stunted your emotions, you will cry through most of the last two episodes of this touching drama about the strength of a mother’s love. Although at face value, this drama seems very one-note, but it will actually surprise you with the strength of all the supporting roles and the heartwarming storyline. And we predict the handsome young boy Yoon Chan Young, who plays Song Yoon Ah’s son, Geu Roo, is destined for great things! His emotionally charged acting earned him the Child Actor Award at the recent 2014 APAN Star Awards!

Which drama ending was your personal favorite? Let us know in the comments!

The Biggest Celebrity Scandals of 2014!

For all of us die-hard Hallyu fans, there were many moments this year when our hearts were ripped out of our chests and tormented with that sinking “say it isn’t so” feeling. Some of our favorite stars became embroiled in controversy, either by their own doing or because of the actions triggered by others. In either case, fans were devastated by the news and were glued to news sources for updates on the events as they unfolded. With legions of Hallyu fans all over the world — and growing everyday! — controversies in the Korean entertainment industry have a ripple effect far beyond the borders of Korea.

Here are the major celebrity scandals that shook us up this year — and changed the way we relate to these celebrities in big and small ways!

Kim Hyung Joong’s Girlfriend Files Assault Charges

WHO: Kim Hyung Joong, popular Korean singer and actor of such major television hits as “Inspiring Generation,” “Playful Kiss” and “Boys Over Flowers

WHAT HAPPENED: On August 20, the star’s ex-girlfriend, identified only as “A,” filed assault charges against him. “A” claimed that the two have been dating since April 2012, but on two occasions in May and July of this year, Kim Hyung Joong allegedly assaulted her in his home in eastern Seoul when they supposedly argued about other women, resulting in the ex-girlfriend sustaining bruises in May and broken ribs that required six weeks of medical treatment in July.

THE AFTERMATH: Kim at first denied the charges and claimed that the two had only been dating for a few months and had already broken up. But news agencies got a hold of text messages exchanged by the two and injury photos that seemed to support the ex-girlfriend’s version of the story. During police questioning on September 2, Kim Hyung Joong admitted that he did hit his ex-girlfriend on one occasion, but not on multiple occasions.Whether an assault happened only once or more than once, the damage has already been done to Kim Hyung Joong’s gentle, boy-next-door reputation, leaving many fans shocked and disappointed. After Kim Hyung Joong posted an official apology to his ex-girlfriend on his website on September 15 and apologized to her in person, she dropped the assault charges against him on September 17. The ex-girlfriend denied receiving any settlement money to drop the charges, claiming she just wanted a formal apology from the star.

WHO: Lee Byung Hun, a world-famous actor who has appeared in popular dramas like “IRIS” and major Hollywood films like the “G.I. Joe” franchise and “RED 2”; Dahee, a member of the K-pop girl group GLAM who appeared in the drama “Monstar”; Lee Ji Yeon, a model

WHAT HAPPENED: Dahee and Lee Ji Yeon video recorded a sexually explicit conversation with Lee Byung Hun. They threatened to release to the video to the media unless the actor paid them 5 billion, which is equivalent to roughly $4.5 million. Instead of giving into their demands, Lee Byung Hun reported the blackmail attempt to the Gangnam Police Department on August 28.

THE AFTERMATH: The women admitted to the wrongdoing and are now in the process of going through the legal system. The first trial was held on October 16, during which Lee Ji Yeon claimed she had a three-month relationship with Lee Byung Hun and said she decided to blackmail him out of anger when he allegedly told her that he wanted to stop seeing her. The second trial took place on November 24. The third trial took place on December 16, during which the prosecution asked for three-year jail sentences for both Dahee and Lee Ji Yeon while the women’s defense team asked the court for leniency. We’ll have to see how the sentencing pans out! Meanwhile, some fans were concerned about Lee Byung Hun’s marriage to the popular young actress Lee Min Jung (of “Cunning Single Lady” and “All About My Romance”), whom he married on August 10, 2013.

Girls’ Generation Drops Jessica — The Ouster Heard Around the World!

WHO: Jessica Jung, one of the nine members of the popular K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation who has appeared in the drama “Wild Romance”; sister of Krystal of f(x), who starred in the popular drama “She’s So Lovable” with Rain

WHAT HAPPENED: In what The Wall Street Journal’s blog called a “K-Pop Earthquake,” Jessica posted on a China-based social media site on September 29 that she was “devastated” to learn that she has been “forced out” of Girls’ Generation, and reaction to the news caused a social media frenzy.

THE AFTERMATH: SM Entertainment released an official statement that confirmed that Jessica will no longer be a part of Girls’ Generation moving forward. The agency stated that Jessica informed the agency last spring that she intended to end her involvement with Girls’ Generation after one more album to pursue other personal projects. She then started her fashion label, BLANC (which was later rebranded to BLANC & ECLARE), allegedly without securing the agency’s approval. When negotiations broke down between the agency and Jessica over “differences in priorities and interest,” the agency said it had “no choice but to pull up Girls’ Generation’s activities as 8 members earlier than planned.” The scandal hasn’t hurt Jessica’s career at all, as she continues to be a popular endorsement model and seems to be keeping busy with her new business ventures.

Kris and Luhan (of EXO) Files Lawsuit Against SM Enterainment

            Kris (left) and Luhan (right)

WHO: Kris and Luhan, two of the members of the popular K-pop group EXO

WHAT HAPPENED: First Kris filed a lawsuit on May 15 to withdraw from his exclusive contract with SM Entertainment. Then on October 10, fellow bandmate Luhan filed a similar suit, using the same law firm to represent him. In his lawsuit, Luhan claimed unequal treatment and allocation of resources by the agency for EXO-K and EXO-M and deteriorating health due to their grueling schedules. EXO debuted in 2011 with a unique concept, with its 12 members divided into two six-member subgroups of EXO-K (performing in Korean) and EXO-M (performing in Mandarin). Both Kris and Luhan were members of the EXO-M subgroup. Luhan claimed that SM Entertainment provided much more support and promotion to the members of EXO-K.

THE AFTERMATH: The high-profile lawsuits may signal a new era of K-pop artists feeling emboldened to fight for more fair contract terms, working conditions and personal freedom (see below for news about artists dating and getting married!). For SM Entertainment, this is just the latest in a long string of public departures in recent years, including JYJ, Hangeng of Super Junior and Jessica of Girls’ Generation. Other artists are following suit to fight for more fair contract terms, most notably B.A.P, which made news over the Thanksgiving holiday when all six members filed a lawsuit against their agency, TS Entertainment, to nullify what the group calls a “slave contract.”

Sungmin of Super Junior Announces His Plans to Marry!

Sungmin with his bride, Kim Sa Eun

WHO: Sungmin, one of the 12 members of the popular K-pop boy band Super Junior

WHAT HAPPENED: A wedding announcement shouldn’t be considered a “scandal” — should it? Well, it can be if you’re a part of an industry where marriage — and dating, for that matter! — is frowned upon because it can diminish your fan base and marketability. So when Sungmin of Super Junior was rumored to be getting married, he felt the need to issue a public apology letter! In it, he stated: “Everyone, I have met a great person and I will be getting married on December 13. My heart aches as I think of everyone who must have been very shocked and surprised about the sudden news.” Sungmin’s star-studded wedding to Kim Sa Eun, a musical theater actress, on December 13 at a private wedding hall in Seoul received widespread coverage by the media.

THE AFTERMATH: Whether or not to divulge a celebrity relationship has been a bit of a cat-and-mouse game, with individuals and their agencies responding to a particular relationship rumor only when the cat is out of the bag. As more and more celebrities openly talk about their relationships and marriage plans, we hope that the stigma about relationships can be removed and celebrities — like the rest of the world — can have a more normal personal life!

Sulli of f(x) and Choiza of Dynamic Duo Dating Controversy

WHO: Sulli, one of the five members of the popular K-pop girl group f(x), who also has acted in “To the Beautiful You

WHAT HAPPENED: Since the fall of 2013, rumors have been going around that Sulli was dating rapper Choiza of the hip-hop group Dynamic Duo. After numerous denials over the past year, SM Entertainment finally confirmed that the two are dating, but the delayed response in acknowledging the relationship angered many fans. Because Sulli also went on hiatus around the same time, allegedly because of the friction caused by her dating with her agency, fans also were worried that the scandal could put f(x) in jeopardy, fueling fears of the group’s disbandment.

THE AFTERMATH:  To divulge or not to divulge — that is the question! Whenever dating rumors about a Korean celebrity surface, they often are labeled as “dating scandals.” It appears that the act of dating among K-pop idols and celebrities is considered scandalous — on some levels unacceptable and shameful. It’s no secret that idols are considered much more marketable when they are single and unattached. But more and more celebrities have been more forthright and open about their relationships in recent years.

            Park Bom’s ‘Drug Smuggling’ Controversy

WHO: Park Bom, the lead vocalist for the K-pop girl group 2NE1

WHAT HAPPENED: Back on October 12, 2010, Park Bom’s family members tried to received a package on her behalf of 82 amphetamine pills through FedEx from the United States, but the package was caught by customs at Incheon International Airport. Although it happened four years ago, news outlets learned of the incident in June of this year. Amphetamines, a central nervous system stimulant,  are available by prescription in the United States but are banned in Korea. Because Park Bom was trying to receive a drug that is illegal in Korea, the act was labeled as “smuggling.” However, prosecutors investigating the case four years ago interviewed Park Bom and her family and decided not to press charges, making citizens wonder today if she received special treatment due to her celebrity status.

THE AFTERMATH: After the news broke, Yang Hyun Suk, CEO of YG Entertainment, issued a statement explaining that Park Bom had been taking amphetamines prescribed by a U.S. university hospital after she experienced a childhood trauma while playing soccer. Because of Park Bom’s busy music schedule, she was unable to travel to the United States to refill her prescription and tried to have it delivered to Korea. Yang said that Park Bom knew that the drug was not available in Korea but did not realize that trying to have it delivered there would constitute a crime. Since the scandal broke earlier this year, Yang Hyun Suk said that Park Bom has switched medication to one that is prescribed by a hospital in Korea. YG Entertainment also issued a statement saying that she is taking time to “self-reflect” and will not be participating in some upcoming domestic events.

Kang Ji Hwan’s Photo Scandal in the Philippines

WHO: Kang Ji Hwan, a popular South Korean actor who starred in the hit television dramas “Big Man,” “Incarnation of Money” and “Lie to Me,” as well as films such as “Rough Cut

WHAT HAPPENED: Kang Ji Hwan became embroiled in controversy on July 11 when photos of the actor in bed with a woman in the Philippines was posted on the Internet, making some people speculate whether he visited a prostitute there. The woman posted pictures of herself and a sleeping Kang Ji Hwan on her Facebook page with the words “…together sleep with Korean actor mr. ji hwan kang.

THE AFTERMATH: Kang Ji Hwan’s representatives were quick to offer an explanation. The reps stated that the actor traveled to the Philippines on July 10 for a photo shoot for Sure magazine, and the photos were taken as a joke by his tour guide’s wife. In the uncensored photos, the woman is taking selfies of herself with Kang Ji Hwan supposedly sleeping in the background, but both are clothed. The woman went back on Facebook and posted “…very sorry only edited pictures hope you can forgive me because his my idol sorry again…” Although Kang Ji Hwan was supposed to stay in the Philippines until July 13, he immediately left the country the evening of July 11 after the scandal broke.

Song Hye Kyo Accused of Tax Evasion

WHO: Song Hye Kyo, a popular South Korean actress well known for starring in “That Winter, The Wind Blows” and many other television shows and films, including John Woo’s film “The Crossing” released December 2

WHAT HAPPENED: Song Hye Kyo found herself under fire when it was revealed on August 18 that she is “top star ‘S’” that the National Tax Service and the Board of Audit and Inspection have been investigating for tax evasion. The federal agencies claimed that Song Hye Kyo failed to report a total of 2.557 billion, which is equivalent to approximately $2.5 million, in income from 2009 to 2011.

THE AFTERMATH: After an investigation, Song Hye Kyo promptly paid the back taxes plus the penalty and issued an apology. Her law firm and representatives issued a statement saying that the actress was not at fault and that the accountants who were handling her taxes have been fired. At a press conference for her new movie “My Brilliant Life” on August 21 and in many interviews since, Song Hye Kyo herself bowed deeply to the public and made her own apologies over the incident, saying she takes full responsibility for what happened but blamed it on her ignorance.

New Girl Group Lovelyz ‘Malicious Online Rumors’ Sex Scandal!

WHO: Jisoo (Seo Ji Soo), one of the eight members of Woollim Entertainment’s first K-pop girl group, Lovelyz

WHAT HAPPENED: On November 3, Woollim Entertainment issued its first teaser video in anticipation of debuting its first girl group, Lovelyz. But almost immediately, one of the eight members, 20-year-old Jisoo, became embroiled in “malicious online rumors” that she bullied and sexually assaulted several women she dated in the past and even took nude photos and videos of her then-girlfriends and distributed them without their consent.

THE AFTERMATH: Woollim Entertainment immediately responded to these online rumors and threatened to take legal action against the original perpetrator of the rumors. It has been reported that investigators have been able to identify the perpetrator, and the case is working its way through the legal system. Meanwhile, Jisoo was admitted to the hospital for treatment for “mental shock” and has not participated in the girl group’s pre-debut and debut activities. She was released from the hospital on November 20 and went to stay with her parents. Woollim says that Jisoo will join the group as soon as she is able.

With his boyish good looks and innocent charm, it’s no wonder Yuki Furukawa has managed to capture the hearts of countless fans around the world. Although it’s only been three years since the Japanese actor made his screen debut in the high school drama “Asuko March,” Yuki has already established himself as a major force in the J-drama world. In honor of Yuki’s 27th birthday today, let’s take a closer look at the life and career of one of Japan’s finest exports.

Considering he was born in Tokyo and raised in Vancouver and New York, Yuki’s universal appeal should come as no surprise. Perhaps the most obvious benefit of this global upbringing is his fluency in both Japanese and English. If you’d like to hear Yuki’s velvety voice on full display, check out his “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge” video from earlier this year. His powerful English-speaking voice makes him even sexier!

Speaking of Yuki’s good looks and charisma, did you know that he got into acting after winning a popularity contest at his school? That’s right! In 2009, while attending Keio University in Tokyo, Yuki was crowned “Mr. Keio,” the title awarded to the most handsome and popular man on campus. Looking to capitalize on his appeal, the talent agency Horipro invited Yuki to an acting audition for its 50th anniversary and the rest, as they say, is history.

These GIFs make it pretty obvious why Yuki Furukawa was voted ‘Mr. Keio’

Yuki’s breakthrough role came in the 2013 Japanese drama “Mischievous Kiss: Love in TOKYO” where he played the lead role of Naoki Irie, the aloof genius who softens when he falls in love with his polar opposite. Thanks in large part to Yuki’s stellar performance, the show has proven to be extremely popular with fans all over the world and has spawned a sequel, the currently airing hit “Mischievous Kiss 2: Love in TOKYO.”

Coincidentally, all of the actors who play his family members in “Mischievous Kiss 2: Love in TOKYO” also are December babies!

Koura Kazumasa, who plays Naoki's father, turns 47 on December 18
Tomomi Nishimura, the actress who portrays Naoki's mother, will be 44 on December 17
