After all these language-learning challenges, we think youre ready to take it to the next level. Were moving on from basic Chinese phrases to Chinese idioms!

Chinese idioms, more commonly known as cheng yu, are traditional Chinese sayings or expressions, usually consisting of four characters. Individual characters have different meanings, but when combined, the idioms result in a literal translation.

There are thousands of cheng yu in the Chinese language, but weve narrowed it down to five that have been used in Taiwanese/Chinese dramas featured on Viki! See how some of these cheng yu are used in the dramas below and learn what they mean!

Zhuan Ren Re Lei (赚人热泪) = “It brings people to tears

If youre watching an immensely touching moment, and there are tears brimming from your eyes, this is the phrase that would describe you accurately. This scene in “Fall in Love With Me” shows Fu Bo (played by Chen Bo Zheng) watching a commercial that Tian Xing (played by Aaron Yan) filmed with OZ Company. The touching storyline has Fu Bo tearing and sniffing into a tissue. Tian Xing asks Fu Bo, “How was it?” and Fu Bo replies with It brings people to tears.

San Fan Liang Ci (三番两次) = “So many times

Did you ever need to repeat yourself two or three times before someone actually understood you? Thats the point that Lance (played by Kao Ying Hsuan) was trying to get across in “Fall in Love With Me,” where hes trying for the umpteenth time to convince Leo (played by Jack Li) to join his company. He says, “For the past two years, Ive invited you so many times to join Tian Ji Advertising.”

Bao Dao Wei Lao (宝刀未老) = “Im still great at this age

When questioned, an older person would respond with this phrase to defend himself or herself in all situations! In “Love Myself or You,” the boss of Figaro Cuisine invites his employees over to his house for a meal. They all praise his cooking, and the boss happily tells his wife, I'm still great at this age!”

Shao An Wu Zao (稍安勿躁) = Take it easy

Do you need to calm down and reassure a group of overly-excited people? Use this phrase! During the cooking competition in “Love Myself or You,” the judges take awhile to discuss the results and urge the eager contestants to take it easy.

Ping Bai Wu Gu (平白无故) = If not

Did someone make a statement without any proof, and you think it’s unfair? In “V Love,” Wan Jia (played by Xiao Yu Yu) questions Wei Wei (played by Li Xi Rui) on the gift given to her by Ding Yi (played by Zhang Bin Bin). Wan Jia thinks there might be something going on between them, saying “If not, why would he give you a flower?”

Which phrase would you use the most? Let us know in the comments!

In just a few days, all eyes will be on Los Angeles as it turns into North America’s biggest hallyu hotspot. With thousands of fans, music, dramas, food, fashion — not to mention appearances from the biggest names in K-pop and K-dramas — KCON 2014 really can’t get any better. To make sure you’re completely prepared for the big weekend, we’ve compiled a list of some of our own tried-and-tested tips to maximize your convention-going experience!

Here’s some of the things you need to know in order to guarantee that your time at KCON 2014, held August 9-10 at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, is totally daebak.

Do: Have a Plan of Action

We’re all about carpe diem, but when you have a literal plethora of things to do, see and hear like at KCON, being without an itinerary isn’t the best idea. Make a list of the workshops, special stages and panels (like the one Viki is hosting with Dramabeans and Sean Richard!) you want to check out and give yourself options.

Viki’s KCON panel from last year with Sean Richard and Dramabeans

Don’t: Start a Fanwar a la Sung Shi Won in “Answer Me 1997

Your favorite idols are probably friends, so you should be, too!  KCON’s all about sharing in the love of all things hallyu, so this is an awesome opportunity to strike up a convo with a fellow fan and revel in anything and everything K-pop, K-drama and beyond.

Do: Run Through Some Vocal Warm-Ups

There will be a lot of screaming, and yes, you will be one of those people. Just like one of my friends once told me, “If you didn’t lose your voice at the concert, you didn’t do it right.” But remember: self-control is key. Being consumed by your feels for hours on end doesn’t exactly make for a fun weekend.

No shame – This would be you, too, if you saw Lee Seung Gi!

Don’t: Be Afraid to Be a K-Pop Dance Machine!

Marathon on every video until you’ve got all the moves down. Seriously — we want to see you perfect the ‘crab walk’ from Girls’ Generation’s “Gee,” the ‘hacky sack’ from “Genie,” and ‘ticking finger clock’ from IU’s “You and I.”

Learn how to crab walk like a pro from Girls’ Generation

Do: Practice Your Perfect Selca Pose

We’re sure you have your go-to pose, but if you needed any more reason to practice, Eric Nam will be taking some selfies (known as selcas in Korean) with fans at the Viki booth (it’s true)! Need to step up your selfie game? Take cuesfrom some of the best in the business.

Remember to show the ‘V sign’ for Viki like CNBLUE!

Don’t: Update Your SNS Every 15 Minutes

We know, it’s asking a lot, but we can guarantee that KCON will be 1,000X better when you’re living in the moment. So once you post that selfie with you and Eric Nam, put the phone back in your bag.

Fight the urge! We believe in you :)

    Do: Dress to Impress!

Whether it’s fandom swag that’s collecting in your room or the perfect cosplay outfit, KCON’s the place to rep your favorite artist and live out those hallyu-filled daydreams. This weekend’s all about enjoying yourself, so be comfortable and remember to slather on the sunscreen!  (Also, be sure to get some Viki swag at our booth to help you beat the heat!)

In the past, we’ve highlighted “7 Guys Who Shouldn’t Wear Shirts.” We think it’s time to show the same love for the ladies with our list of the top 10 Asian Bagel Girls!

A “Bagel Girl” is a Korean term used to describe female celebrities with a glamorous body and a baby face. This nickname is meant to compliment women who have an “S-line,” or a curvy figure, while also having an adorable, cute face.

So while we’re all trying to get all the enjoyment possible out of the remaining days of summer, let these actresses and singers with their beach-ready bodies inspire the rest of us to aspire to become Bagel Girls — or just admire them from afar!

Here are our picks for the 10 Hottest Asian Bagel Girls that prove looking good is a combination of good luck and hard work. See if you agree with our list!

    Puff Guo

While usually known for being cute, the Taiwanese star turns up the sexy while striking a pose that shows off all her best features! If you’re looking for more Puff Guo, watch her in “Just You,” “Love Myself or You” and “We Got Married Global Edition Season 2.” She did win Viki’s #WorldCup2014 celebrity bracket, so it’s pretty obvious you love her just as much as we do.

    Bianca Bai

Bianca Bai started her career as a model before becoming an actress. With nicknames such as “Angel’s face” and “Devil’s body,” Bianca Bai proves she deserves these monikers! See how the Taiwanese beauty compares to co-stars like Ethan Ruan in “Fated to Love You” since her height is almost 5’8”!

    Shin Se Kyung

Shin Se Kyung first made her debut at the age of 8 when she was featured on the cover of Seo Taiji’s solo album. Since then, Shin Se Kyung has appeared in dramas ranging from historical (“The Great Queen Seon Deok” and “A Tree With Deep Roots”) to more romantic (“Fashion King” and “When a Man Loves”). Regardless of the role she plays, Shin Se Kyung’s captivating looks always shine through.

Do you think Shin Se Kyung could be the next sexy queen? Check below and let us know!

    Park Shin Hye

She’s been working in the industry since age 13, but Park Shin Hye is all grown up now. She no longer is a young girl but a gorgeous woman with the body to prove it. Her acting career also has blossomed over the years from starring roles in “You’re Beautiful” and “Heartstrings” to “Flower Boy Next Door” and “Heirs.” With looks like these, we’re happy to have Park Shin Hye continue to mature into more demanding roles!

    Clara

In May 2013, Clara became an overnight sensation online when she threw the ceremonial first pitch at a professional baseball game in Korea wearing skin-tight leggings. Her new sex symbol status soon landed her several roles and cameos in shows such as “Emergency Couple,” “Goddess of Marriage,” and the current hit “Fated to Love You.”

Watch Clara dance around in a swimsuit in the commercial below.

    Shin Min Ah

She obviously knows how to work her “assets” as a model for Calvin Klein, but Shin Min Ah also is an established actress appearing in dramas such as “My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho” and “Arang and the Magistrate” as well as movies (“A Million”). Shin Min Ah is one of the most in-demand and highest-paid female celebrities for commercial deals, and we can see why with her perfect combination of cute and sexy.

    Uee

Spending her early years as a competitive swimmer, Uee is now known by the nickname “Honey Thighs.” Not just another pretty face, Uee has worked hard on developing her acting skills with roles in the dramas “You’re Beautiful,” “The Great Queen Seon Deok” and “Golden Rainbow.” She even joined the variety show “Barefoot Friends” to hone her comedic chops. Cheers to this triple threat — dancer, singer and actress!

Catch her hot dance moves at the 21:45 mark with K-pop girl group “After School” below!

    Min Hyo Rin

A popular choice to star in music videos (she’s already been in 10!), Min Hyo Rin also has made a name for herself on the small screen with cameos and supporting roles in “Romance Town,” “Dr. Champ” and “Triple.” Doesn’t it feel like her smoldering stare can see right through you?

    Yoo In Na

A relative latecomer after debuting at the age of 27, Yoo In Na is quickly making up for lost time with her speedy rise in the industry. Roles in popular K-dramas “My Love From the Star,” “The Greatest Love,” and “Queen In Hyun’s Man” have definitely confirmed her star status. Yoo In Na was even invited to this year’s KCON 2014 in Los Angeles to promote her new beauty show!

See Yoo In Na’s interview with Eric Nam on the Red Carpet at KCON 2014 below!

    Tia Li

Puff’s fellow girl group member also makes our list of Bagel Girls! Tia Li started modeling at age 16, but it’s only been in the past few years that her popularity has rapidly increased, landing her a starring role opposite flower boy Aaron Yan in “Fall in Love With Me.” This is just the beginning as she continues her meteoric rise as a celebrity!

Which Bagel Girl is your favorite? Share with us in the comments, or tell us who we should have included on the list!

Kim Hyun Joong, massively popular Korean drama star and idol of “Boys Over Flowers” and “Playful Kiss” and more recently “Inspiring Generation,” was accused of repeated assaults against his girlfriend of more than two years, according to news reports released yesterday.

According to the report filed by Kim’s girlfriend and covered by news outlets, the domestic violence occurred between May and July of this year. The report claims she sustained serious injuries, including bruising to her face, chest, arms and hips, as well as broken ribs that required six weeks of medical treatment.

The police are currently investigating the allegations. Kim is still planning to perform at his concert in Thailand on August 24 as part of his world tour, which kicked off earlier this summer.

The singer and actor has increased in popularity with his starring role in the current drama “Hi! School: Love On,” and we don’t see his popularity waning anytime soon.

Pictured with fellow Infinite member, Woohyun,

      He Is 6 Feet Tall

Sungyeol’s innocent looks may fool you, but his height makes him stand out onscreen and while performing on stage.

His Aunt Also Is in the Entertainment Industry

Yoon Yoo Sun is an actress who has appeared in many popular dramas, including “Wonderful Days,” “Good Doctor,” “Jang Ok Jeong, Lives in Love” and “Marry Me, Mary!” She’s definitely a veteran sunbae since she has acted in more than 40 dramas since 1995!

      His Nickname Is Gingiva Prince

Whenever he smiles, his gingiva, or gums, can be seen and this is the reason for Sungyeol’s nickname. We think he looks handsome no matter what. Don’t you agree?

He Knows His Ideal Type of Girl

Sungyeol has said in the past that he likes girls who are easy-going and cute. He’s looking for someone who doesn’t pretend to be anything but herself. Sadly, the reason why he doesn’t currently have a girlfriend is that he’s an idol.

He Was the Last Member to Join K-Pop Group Infinite

Sungyeol’s position in the group may only be as a vocalist, but this hasn’t stopped him from working hard to make Infinite into the massively well-known group it is now. The group has come far from its humble beginnings in 2010 to its best-selling albums in 2013.

Catch Infinite’s recent music comeback on “SBS Inki Gayo” at the 57:47 mark with its latest hit song, “Back.”

Viki now has a selection of premium Indian videos, ranging from the Golden Age of Bollywood to the hottest new releases! Our extensive new library includes movies from top production houses like Balaji and Rajshri as well!

      http://www.viki.com/videos/1048838v-once-upon-a-time-in-mumbai

      http://www.viki.com/videos/1048841v-shootout-at-lokhandwala

Feeling a little clueless about Bollywood? No worries, we’ve got you covered!

Wait  why IS it called Bollywood?

The term “Bollywood” was created by combining the words “Hollywood” and “Bombay” (now known as Mumbai). Hence, “Bollywood” was born!

Did Bollywood ever have a Golden Age like Hollywood?

But of course! The films produced between the 1940s and 1960s are regarded by film critics to be the most critically acclaimed cinematic period for Bollywood.

Alright, alright, thats very nice and all, but who’s famous in Bollywood?

      Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh Khan rose to fame with Pardes, later earning a nomination for Best Actor at Filmfare (the Hindi version of the Academy Awards), but he’s also ranked among the 50 most powerful people in the world by Newsweek. And if that’s not enough, Khan also earns more money than Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp! Say what?!

      Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya Rai is heralded as one of the most beautiful women in the world, being nominated as Miss World in 1999. She also is well known for her humanitarian work, supporting causes to help fight HIV/AIDS, cruelty against animals and cleft palettes. On top of ALL of that, she’s a celebrated actress, starring in films such as Khakee,” “Action Replayyand Taal.

      Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan has won numerous acting awards for Black and starred in the Bollywood equivalent of “The Godfather,” known as Sarkar. Bachhan also has starred in the blockbuster hit Shootout at Lokhandwala. As added testament to Bachchans popularity, in 2000, he was the first living Asian to get a wax figure at the world famous Madame Tussaud’s London!

      Dilip Kumar
Reigning as one of the greatest actors from the Golden Age, Dilip Kumar can be viewed as one of Bollywood’s greatest. His films include Karma and Saudagar, and all of his hard work has paid off! Kumar holds a Guinness World Record for the most awards won by an Indian Actor. Talk about popularity!

Awesome! But with so many videos available, where should I start?

Need some action in your life? Then try watching Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, which tells the tale of Sultan and his rise to power in the murky underbelly of Mumbai during the 1970s. This movie pays tribute to the golden age of Bollywood with some of Bollywoods most popular stars  plus theres a sequel if you want even more action! But if you need even more explosions, try Shootout at Lokhandwala” — based on the true story of five criminals, 286 policemen and a six-hour standoff between them!

And once you’re done watching giant explosions and shootouts, try some more dramatic titles, such as “Shor in the City,” which tells three different stories in parallel about the challenges of surviving in the big city of Mumbai. Or try “Kahaani,” a story about a woman who comes to Mumbai to search for her missing husband but only finds dead-end clues.

Ready to branch out into Bollywood? Then let’s get watching!

Note: Subtitle creation is not available on Bollywood titles yet, but will be in a few weeks. Stay tuned and we'll let you know when the subtitling tools are ready for you to use!

However, this isn’t just another typical weekend drama — the patriarch of this family decides to sue his adult children for being undutiful! Cha Bong Soon (played by Yoo Dong Geun) is fed up with their selfish behavior and wants to teach them a lesson. Find out about what other craziness happens in this hilarious video recap!

Cha Dal Bong (played by Park Hyung Shik) is the youngest son and will be caught up in a love triangle with Kang Seo Wool (played by Nam Ji Hyun) and Yoon Eun Ho (played by Seo Kang Joon). She’s a lucky girl to have these two cuties fight over her! Jealous? YES!

Seo Kang Joon (left) and Park Hyung Shik (right)

Here’s your chance to learn more about these young rising Korean stars:

      Park Hyung Shik

Park Hyung Shik debuted in 2010 with the K-pop boy group ZE:A, but it’s easy to get lost in the mix among eight other members. For him, the rise to fame came thanks to appearances in the reality/variety show “Real Men” and dramas such as the massive hit “Heirs” and “Nine: 9 Times Time Travel.” He even won the Best Male Newcomer in a Variety Show Award in 2013. Congratulations, Hyung Shik!

      Seo Kang Joon

Seo Kang Joon is the new kid on the K-drama scene, having only been around for about a year. He appeared in “The Suspicious Housemaid,” but it was really his first supporting role in “Cunning Single Lady” that put him on the map. You might be surprised to learn that this timid flower boy is actually the leader of 5urprise, a five-member acting group set to branch out into music, commercials and variety shows. Don’t look too closely — his dreamy, light brown eyes make it hard for fans to resist him!

      Nam Ji Hyun

Nam Ji Hyun is the most veteran of the three actors because she has been acting since childhood with roles in “East of Eden” and “The Great Queen Seon Deok.” She’s even a three-time winner of the Special Child Actress Award. With her recent portrayal as the young Yoon Soo Wan in the widely popular drama “Angel Eyes,” Nam Ji Hyun is slowly making the transition into more adult roles. She grows more beautiful every day, and we’re excited to see what comes next!
