With the premiere of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” on April 23 in Korea, the star-studded cast of the much-anticipated Hollywood film was in Seoul on Friday to show its Korean fans some love. Thousands of fans gathered at the Conrad Seoul hotel in Yeouido to catch a glimpse of the latest Marvel superhero movie’s many stars, including Korean actress Claudia Kim (also known by her Korean name Kim Soo Hyun), Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans. The film also stars Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson.

The event was a warm homecoming for Kim Soo Hyun, who plays geneticist Dr. Helen Cho, an ally to the Avengers, in the new film. Korean drama fans will recognize her from roles in “7th Grade Civil Servant.” She has previously starred in the Netflix original series “Marco Polo” and once again proves herself on the international stage, with cast member Robert Downey Jr. commending her performance. “Claudia did a fantastic job,” Downey said. “We’re not at all doubtful about the talent that comes from here.”

The new film picks up where the events of “Captain America: Winter Soldier” left off. S.H.I.E.L.D. has been dismantled and the Avengers need help keeping the world at peace. As usual, Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) decides that building an army of sentient robots is the most efficient solution. Naturally, things go awry and the Avengers unite to clean up the (deliciously frenetic, yet ultimately catastrophic) mess.
In addition to Kim Soo Hyun’s role in the movie, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” features scenes that were shot in Seoul in April 2014. Quick cuts of the city can be seen in the movie’s latest trailer. The Korean locations included Sangam Digital Media City, the Sebit Dungdung Seom island near Banpo, and the Tancheon parking lot in Gangnam.
