Could one of today’s hottest young singer-songwriters be making his acting debut in Bollywood? Ed Sheeran, the award-winning British singer of “The A Team” and “Thinking Out Loud” fame, might’ve just landed his first acting role.

After performing to a sold-out concert in Mumbai on March 1, the singer was invited by choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan to a party hosted by Abhishek Bachchan, the son of Bollywood acting royalty. The party was thrown to celebrate the nuptials of Abhishek’s cousin, Naina Bachchan, to Kunal Kapoor.

Ed Sheeran and Abhishek Bachchan hit it off so well that they both agreed Ed would make an appearance in the sequel to Farah Khan’s hit film “Happy New Year.”

“It was a surprise when my cousin Zubin called me from London to say that Ed Sheeran was going to be in town and wanted to meet up with me and my Bollywood friends,” Farah Khan told the Daily Mirror. “It was very gracious of Abhishek to let me bring Ed and his team to his home.”

“Happy New Year” was one of Bollywood’s biggest hits of 2014 and had a star-studded cast that included Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Jackie Schroff and Deepika Padukone. The film was produced under Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chilies Entertainment banner. Farah and Shah Rukh — more affectionately called “King Khan” — have a long history of collaborating together on film projects.
