Recently, Häagen-Dazs announced two new ice cream flavors in Japan: Tomato Cherry and Carrot Orange. While the combination of fruits and vegetables in ice cream might seem strange, this is only one example of delicious twists on classic flavors and food products that can only be found in Asia. You’ve probably even noticed some being enjoyed by your favorite characters in popular dramas!

Would you try vegetable-flavored ice cream?

Check out the unique flavors of these six popular Asian snacks, and let us know if you’ve ever had — or want to try — them.

Yakult

The yogurt drink has a wonderful tangy taste, and it’s small size makes it easy to bring along anywhere. In “Rooftop Prince,” Lee Gak (played by Park Yoochun) and Bak Ha (played by Han Ji Min) shared a pack while strolling through the park.

The original flavor of Yakult is found in countries worldwide, but other delicious flavors can only be found in Asia.

Kit Kat

The chocolate-covered wafer is light and crispy with easy-to-snap-off bars. Since 2000, Japan has introduced more than 200 different flavors of these iconic chocolate wafers, including green tea, blueberry cheesecake, purple yam and banana. The flavors are designed to appeal to younger consumers and are often purchased as part of a good-luck gift since the name sounds like the Japanese phrase “Kitto Katsu,” which means “surely win.”

Pocky

The most popular flavors of this coated biscuit sticks are strawberry and chocolate, which is what Na Jung (played by Go Ah Ra) is eating while watching Chil Bong (played by Yoo Yeon Seok) pitch during their university’s baseball championships in “Reply 1994.” But there are many more flavors of this delicious snack — such as coconut, peanut, tropical and cheesecake — that are hard to find outside of Asia.

Like Kit Kat, Pocky also comes in a variety of sizes and flavors, most of which are only available in Asia

Potato Chips

The crunching sound heard while eating potato chips is instantly recognizable. Popular flavors include original, barbecue, and sour cream and onion. However, traveling abroad opens up a whole new world of flavor options. In China, Lay’s potato chips come in cucumber, blueberry, and hot and sour fish soup! Thailand offers seaweed, salmon, and hot chili pepper. In “Romance Town,” Soon Geum (played by Sung Yu Ri) and Gun Woo (played by Jung Gyu Woon) walk back from the store after purchasing their favorite potato chips to share.

Oreos

The sandwich cookies consist of cream filling squeezed between two chocolate disks. Since first being introduced in the United States, Oreos have been produced in many varieties in different countries all around the world. Some notable flavors include milky banana (China), dulce de leche (Chile), green tea (Japan), and orange ice cream (Singapore and Malaysia).

Bottled Tea

The bottled tea market has grown rapidly in recent years, with several drink companies expanding their offerings to include different black and green tea options. In Asia, grocery store shelves are packed with teas that range from chrysanthemum and oolong to barley and corn silk. You can even find bottled tea as a staple in meeting rooms, as evidenced by the scenes from “I Need Romance 3” and “Flower Boy Next Door.”
