We're excited to announce that Viki has acquired Soompi! Yep, THAT Soompi! As the original K-pop community site, it made sense for us to join forces to continue delivering the best content to your screen. Drama fans, get pumped to access all of SoompiTV's content on Viki!

While the Viki you know and love will remain virtually the same, we have some cool collaborations in the pipeline, so stay tuned. We hope you're as excited as we are about the future-- and a huge thanks to the Viki and Soompi communities!

West Coast J-rock fans, rejoice! VAMPS, the J-rock duo formed by HYDE (lead vocalist of L’Arc-en-Ciel) and K.A.Z (guitarist of Oblivion Dust), are coming to California on their 2015 Tour!

VAMPS is one of the most successful international Japanese rock acts of all time - meaning that this is an opportunity not to be missed. Even better, VAMPS is known for their diverse and extensive live performances, choosing to mainly promote their music in the form of global tours. With over 6 years of experience in blowing the roof off of sold-out venues, this will be a show to remember. Check out one of their latest releases, the English version of “Vampire’s Love” here to get pumped.

If you are a fan of J-rock, then get ready to pencil these dates into your calendar: 10/5 at the Roxy Theater in LA and 10/7 at Slim’s in San Francisco. Tickets are on sale now, so get them before they’re gone and keep up with more tour news on their official Facebook account!

Be one of the top 500 volunteers, and you'll receive a special, limited-edition #1BillionWords badge to display on your profile page!

Plus, all participants have the chance to win a free month of Viki Pass, and one user will randomly chosen to win a very special prize: a brand new Macbook!

When:

• Event period: October 5 - 12, 2015 (PST)
• Badges will be distributed on October 16 (PST)

How:

• Volunteer on one of the thousands of videos on Viki, by either subtitling or segmenting*! 
• What can you win? 
• The Top 500 Viki users with the highest number of contributions (subtitles and/or segments) during the event period will receive a special, limited-edition #1BillionWords badge! 
• A number of participants will be randomly chosen to receive a special code good for one month of VikiPass!
• A number of participants will be randomly chosen to receive a Roku 3**! 
• One user will be randomly chosen to win a new Macbook**! 
• Winners will be contacted via email.

• Head over to Project Finder, the Project Board, or the top of your profile to find a video that needs your help. 
• As a courtesy, message the Channel Manager or respective language moderator to let them know you’re interested, and get started!

 Don’t know another language? No worries!

• Segmenting (setting the timing of the subtitles) and captioning (creating subtitles in the show’s original language) are great ways to contribute. Check out the top of your profile for video recommendations!

• Inappropriate segmenting or subtitling, like the creation of  use of a translator program (i.e. Google Translate) or copying subtitles from a non-Viki source, is strictly prohibited, and a violation of the Viki Community Guidelines. Such behavior will lead to disqualification.

A new layout, optimized for content discovery

We’ve improved the layout of our homepage to make it easier for you to find the shows that are important to you. A new, three-column design makes it easy to see in one glance what shows are currently trending, as well as what’s on air and what’s coming soon to Viki. We’ve also added a new miniaturized TV guide on the homepage itself, to make it easier for you to see all the newly added episodes each day.

Personalized recommendations just for you

Not sure what you want to watch next? Don’t worry. Viki can now provide you with personalized show recommendations right on the homepage. Powered by the latest in machine learning technology, our recommendations engine will provide you with personalized show recommendations based on what you have previously watched. Check it out!

We know how important our volunteers are to the success of Viki, and so we wanted to thank the community. Every week, we will showcase the top subtitlers and segmenters of the week right on the homepage as a small token of appreciation for the hard work and many hours that they have put in to make Viki a better experience for everyone. To coincide with the launch of the Soompi Awards 2015, we are happy to announce that Soompi is now available as a native app for both iOS and Android!

The Soompi app provides a fast and fluid native experience, making it fun and easy to browse through the day’s top K-Pop and K-Drama news on the go. Swipe left and right to go from article to article instantly, and images are optimized for a fast loading experience. Comments are also conveniently just one click away!

What if you come across an interesting article on Soompi, but don’t have time to read it now? No problem. Mark the article as a Favorite so you can always go back to read it at a later time.

Support for app notifications

With app notifications enabled, you will never miss an important news article again! You can choose to be notified whenever any new stories are published on Soompi, or just stories in the categories that you care most about.
